Flashback: Arrington vs. Brown: who do we draft?drew54 03-12-2005, 04:56 PM And Atlanta shouldn't have traded Brett Favre. But hindsight is a bitch. jdlea 03-12-2005, 07:14 PM That's funny, I remember the Skins being happy that the Browns took Courtney Brown and not LaVar. They wanted LA all along. sportscurmudgeon 03-12-2005, 08:30 PM jdlea: What would you expect the Redskins to say after they took the #2 and #3 players in the draft? Do you really think it would be even remotely possible for them to say: "Damn! What we really wanted was Courtney Brown but we got screwed by Cleveland and we had to settle for stale leftovers or sloppy seconds." HIghly unlikely! That hardly fits with flying the guys into FedEx on helicopters so there could be a huge press conference with Danny Boy front and center. Oh, do you remember that Danny Boy said at that time that Redskins never hold out and are never late for training camp. Well DAnhy Boy did, And well, Lavar was "late". Like I said, there's a lot of revisionist history goin' on here... Defensewins 03-12-2005, 08:49 PM Truth is it was dumb luck that the FO and Gofer boy Cerrato were in postion to draft Lavar Arrington and Samuels. The year before then-general manager Charlie Casserly gave up the fifth selection in the first round of the 1999 to Mike Ditka and the Saints for two #1's, two #3's, a #4,5,6 and 7 round picks. The famous Ricky Williams for all my draft picks trade. Casserly then traded the Saints 1999 #1 (9th overall) #3 and #5 to the Chicago Bears for their 1999 first-round pick (7th overall) and picked Champ Bailey. With these two trades, Casserly set up the Redskins to have three high first round picks in the 2000 draft and got us Champ Bailey. Then the FO, in all his genious fired Casserly and hired his lap boy Cerrato. Could you imagine how Casserly must have felt? The FO and Cerrato stumbled into this great situation (dumb luck). Then Cleveland helped us along by picking Brown. John Hasbrouck 03-12-2005, 10:24 PM Brown is far to risky, injury prone Yellow31 03-12-2005, 10:39 PM Brown is far to risky, injury prone If he is cheap who cares if he only plays 6 games, gives the skins a couple sacks and everyone is happy diehardskin2982 03-13-2005, 03:34 PM the brown, arrington connection reunited would be awesome. If they became half as good as they were at pennn state I would be happy mooby 03-13-2005, 10:18 PM yeah but still, i don't remember how we got the 2nd and 3rd overall picks in the first place. we went to the playoffs the previous year, so how did we get them. imagine if atlanta still had brett favre and he was their starting quarterback. where would michael vick be? TheMalcolmConnection 03-13-2005, 10:26 PM Clemons gave us a couple sacks and hardly played at all last year. I'm happy with that. We don't need Brown. mooby 03-13-2005, 10:29 PM yeah clemons only played in like six games yet he posted three sacks and a few tackles. he would be a great backup outside linebacker. but, to bring it back up, how did we get the second and third picks? and just imagine what it would've been like if atlanta still had brett favre. who would vick be playing for? |
