CRedskinsRule 09-05-2013, 10:22 AM Could the Redskins pursue a trade for Jarius Byrd? - Son of Washington (http://wp.me/p2lk1y-3S1)
Could this be why we were clearing cap space?
We cleared cap space to have a bare minimum in the season. It's not Shanahan's MO to go after someone like Byrd, and its not BA's MO to go out on a limb cap space wise.
Reading the whole article, it's just purely a ridiculous notion to think that Cousins is going to be traded before Griffin has played a snap in a live game.
Chico23231 09-05-2013, 10:25 AM i think we got a plan at safety and trading for Byrd is not in it.

The plan at safety is to have a dominant pass rush, at least this season. The Giants had a substandard secondary in the past but got away with it due to their pass rush.
I think we are looking to go that same route. If our pass rushers stay healthy, I believe we can pull it off. Force teams to run and use short passes.
CRedskinsRule 09-05-2013, 10:38 AM per overthecap.com, the bottom 6 salary cap teams are:
Saints $121,252,279 $1,510,273
49ers $120,895,025 $1,424,557
Redskins $102,295,699 $1,412,625
Chargers $111,177,275 $668,984
Rams $109,608,556 $525,143
Giants $116,254,315 ($975,555)
They keep these pretty accurate, so I would really like to know how the Giants are nearly 1M over the salary cap. Again, I think this shows that the restructures were just to keep us above the line this year. (yes they definitely include the Bowen and Cofield numbers) I haven't been able to find any more info on Carriker, and I don't understand why we would restructure his. That's a head scratcher to me.

I hope that the Giants get whooped for being over the cap. Competitive balance is at stake. Let 'em taste their own medicine.
Skinzman 09-05-2013, 11:04 AM Does anyone know what day teams have to be in compliance with the cap? I was under the impression that day was when teams had to cut the roster to 53.

It was yesterday at 4pm according to Andrew Brandt on Ross Tucker's show.

I just went searching and found a source saying the same thing. If the Giants didnt do anything yesterday to lower their cap, then they should get hit with a loss of draft picks.

Byrd is hurt and unable to play now anyway, plantar fasciitis...not an easy recovery.
If he could somehow afford him, which we can't, I say toss out a Pat White for Byrd offer. They DESPERATELY need a backup QB.

They must have done something. Andrew Brandt wasn't sure what the penalty was, but he kept saying repeatedly that he's never seen anyone be over the cap. I would assume it's pretty severe whatever the penalty is.
