Redskins strength vs. Cowboys' strength | Comcast SportsNet Washington (http://www.csnwashington.com/football-washington-redskins/talk/redskins-strength-vs-cowboys-strength)

I really would like to see a pass or two on first down. I know we want to establish the run, but I think hitting a couple quick early passes would loosen up the run pressure.

of course missing on them would be bad...

I agree -- sprinkling in Helu early might help, so that it isn't clear whether he's a runner or a receiving back. It could also help slow down the edge rush a bit as well by forcing Dallas to account for a back out in the flats. If the Redskins can establish that as a real threat, it ought to open up some room in the middle for Alfmo, and it might cause the DBs to come up closer to the line, allowing Robinson and Garcon to blow past them (again).

I will say this, if we go down to Dallas and win, JJ won't be spouting any nonsense about moral victories, that's for sure.

I disagree, I would go with rushing play first. 2 or 3 out of last four games, if I'm correct, I think we went passing on first plays and it ended with 3 and out for us on our first drive. Morris is like a diesel truck, might as well use him. Also it will help set up play actions easier, which should come with positive results given the fact Cowboys' secondary suck.

Philly : lets forget how we started there!

I actually thought we started with more runs, but the initial pass play was usually successful, probably because the defense assumed run.

Ah I guess I should have checked out the stats before I posted. For some reason I thought we actually went 3 and out on first drive. Regardless, my belief stays same. We should run first.

I dont care about stats or rankings or any of that up to this point. They are so skewed when it comes to comparing us to them. Zero common opponents so far.
This game comes down to preparedness. We have had two weeks. They have had one. They probably have a bad taste in their mouths because of the tough loss to Denver.
There defense has been all over the map this year, but ours has been lousy for the entire year minus a three quarter stretch vs a qb who is currently unemployed. Griff has got to be sharp and KS has to be on his game with the playcalling. Im hoping that pure hatred for the cowboys fuels the defense to play above their heads. We CANNOT come out of the gates slow for the fifth game in a row.
This is the game that puts us rite back in the thick of it.

Kai kicks the game winner after a fast and furious one minute drill by Griff n company.
The finish will not be for the weak at heart!
HTTR!

Exactly. The offense had 3 points against Oakland at the half. Green Bay and Philly have pitiful defenses yet we couldn't barely get a first down the entire first half. Those are the only stats that matter. Putting points on the board and winning the game. All the other crap means nothing. We need to score this week if we want to win.

I cannot say I agree, nor does the recent history suggest it would be wise to just try to pound the ball our of the gate. Remember, teams still believe, and with reason, that RGIII isn't going to take off running, so they have been focusing on stopping Alfmo at the line. Unless RGIII is going to start taking off on designed runs, which I still doubt, even though he's healthier, we can probably expect teams to continue to try to do this. Which is why softening up folks with high percentage passes early (not exclusively, but enough to show we can hurt them with it) makes sense to me. Having said that, nothing would make me happier than seeing Alfmo run right through the Dallas D on his first carry, like Portis did on his first carry as a Redskin.

I agree with what you said except for the bolded part. I think we see a renewed Gryphon after the bye, including more designed runs. Not a ton of runs, mind you, but enough to make the defense think about that reality.

I posted that, because I was wrong too, I thought our first play in each game was a run that was stopped. But our first down passes were fairly successful.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying I don't want to see more designed runs -- I think it would be great and would really keep defenses guessing as was the case last year. I also agree that we wouldn't want to see too many of them either. I am hoping that Romo will follow his 500 yard, 5 TD game with a turd of a performance -- more along the lines of 5 INTs like we also know he's capable of.
