offiss 03-22-2005, 02:32 PM I was with you until you threw in Jackson being picked in the second round. Why are you so fond of him? He could fall as low as the fourth round. There's a possibility SD would want to trade up (for those who believe it's not competitively logical for division rivals to trade) from 12th overall to draft a guy they really like. They also have another selection at 28th and a second rounder at #61. So it seems likely a deal would be able to be worked out if that was the case. :oink:
I don't see him falling to the 4th but you may be right about him in the early 2nd I just want to know we get him, the reason I like him and I know I am going out on a limb here but I think he just may be better than Williams, I saw their combines and Jackson is a better athlete than Williams, he's bigger and faster, his hand's are probably not quite as good as Williams but he does have good hand's [Williams hand's are phenomal] that's why I want him, I don't care where we draft him at so long as we get him after the 1st rd which will net us Rolle.
BossHog 03-22-2005, 02:41 PM Point taken. :oink:
Daseal 03-22-2005, 03:06 PM Offiss - DJ is probably the best athlete in the draft, if he were available I'd think about taking him, but problem is we have other gaps to fill with people that could be great too. I doubt DJ drops past MN anyways, but I believe with our wealth of LBs that he would be a waste. We could trade M Washington, but not worth it for a rookie. I agree he won't be near as good inside as outside. If we really need an MLB - if we have another losing season we could land the kid from UVA.
As far as Jackson - this is the Northern Colorodo kid? (Colorodo is a funny word) If so what kind of DBs did he go against. Not saying he couldn't be great, but I doubt he's a replacement for Mike Williams. Same thing with that Alabama QB turned WR. He's a great athelete, but I think he may ultimately WANT to be a QB kinda like that Crouch guy. Though I wouldn't be against the Northern Colorodo guy, I'd rather have Edwards or Williams by a long shot!

I'm with you here. There's a slim chance that Matt Jones and to a lesser degree, Vincent Jackson, are going to be great NFL WRs. For the most part, they won't be given much of an opportunity to prove that they 'belong'. And that's unfortunate. :oink:
skinsWill 03-22-2005, 03:51 PM did everyone here forget about troy williamson at the #9 if edwards (who im not sold on) and williams are gone. Our defense was #3 last year without arguably one of the biggest playmakers in the leauge (LaVar) i say focus on what was bad last year and that is offense pure and simple.

Focusing on the offense is fine and dandy, but if you're going to draft a WR be prepared for him to develop slowly. Very few WRs come in and make an impact in year one, they usually take three years. Sorry if I sound like a broken record to a lot of you guys, but for every Randy Moss and Anquan Boldin you have a lot more guys who developed slowly like Torry Holt, Laveraneus Coles, Santana Moss, Andre Johnson, Derrick Mason, Terrell Owens, etcetera. If you take a WR, you're making a long term decision, which is good in my opinion. But I just want you to realize drafting a WR is no quick fix.
backrow 03-22-2005, 04:01 PM You may have thought I said something else. I'm saying that we could trade our #9 for PHIs #31, OR #35, AND #63. That would give PHI 1350 vs our 876 (#31 and #63) or 856 (#35 and #63). :oink:
Never, ever forget, we do not deal with teams within our own division!
Except the deal for Sonny J. with the e-girls, years ago!
For example, we would not entertain any kind of proposal from J. Jones and the cowroids two number #1s for our pick! Those moves with other division rivals always come back to bite you!

Daseal, that is the big knock on him he hasen't gone up against elite competition, it's the only reason keeping him out of the first rd.which is what is going to make him a steal. You can make a similar argument about Williams, he played in a superior offense, an NFL structured offense, going up against inferior coached team's comparativly, which brought Williams a lot of success because of mismatches created on the college level that wont be there when he get's to the NFL, not to mention a top flight college QB. I still feel William's will be a monster in the red zone though, my support of Jackson is not a knock on Williams, I just feel he will be better than Williams and at a much cheaper price that would allow us to draft Rolle as well. I believe if Jackson played for USC his whole carreer the draft buzz right now would have him going before Williams. Jackson is very aggresive I watched his combine and you can see a player who really is trying to out due himself with everything he does he has the desire to work and get better, and he will.

So why wasn't he scouted by USC or a another bigtime program? :oink:
CrazyCanuck 03-22-2005, 04:15 PM I am in the camp that believes there are no immediate needs, no gaping holes in the roster as it is currently comprised.
At CB, I love Springs and I like Walt Harris a lot. Harris was a former 1st round pick and started in this league for like 6 or 7 years, so he's fine. Springs was healthy all last year, but we must remember that he has been injury prone during his career, and we would be wise to grab some talent at CB. Plus, these two starters are getting older, and we'll need to replace them someday. I think priority one for that 9th selection has to be Rolle or Pac Man. The rookie wouldn't start, he'd probably be nickel. But he'd be there if we need him this year, and he'll be ready when the old guys fade away.
I agree.
