I think that we have not targeted Special teams guys who do only special teams. Shanahan seemed to think any fast guy could be a kick returner. WRONG!!
I would like us to draft a player like Dri Archer who has blazing speed and would understand that his role is being the KR\PR.
Brandon Banks was a good return man, he just lost focus on his job. Do you agree?
I don't think he was any good to be honest, good straight line speed but no vision. The fact he's now in the CFL says something.

He was fast and a small tackling target.
He also struggled against starting-caliber players apparently, hence all of the preseason success that never carried over into the real games.
I was rooting for him as a small guy to make it in the NFL, but he just didn't have it.

I like TJ Ward better than Byrd, I've seen more highlights on Ward than Byrd.

Ward is a Strong Safety and Byrd is a Free Safety. So if a team had enough money they could get both

If it were up to me, anyone we acquire to be a starter would be a young vet FA. But that's unrealistic. There are two positions where I feel we must go after top-notch, high-priced FA's if we are to improve our team significantly next season. They are FS and CB.
The back end of our defense needs a veteran leader. I would make it my top priority to sign a top FS for our defense. My first choice would be Jairus Byrd and my second choice would be Chris Clemons.
Secondly, our defense would gain a significant advantage by having a shutdown corner. My FA targets, in order, would be Aquib Talib and Sam Shields (assuming he's healthy).
That's where we need proven vets the most, IMO.

I agree that there is significant area of needed improvement on the back end, but I would suggest that the best pass coverage is a good pass rush. I would upgrade the D-line and OLB, in order to help the dbs. I wouldn't re-sign Orakpo I would use the cheaper solution of Jackson/Jenkins and have money to upgrade NT and DE.

I think they're targeting Byrd. I haven't heard anything about Ward yet.
