Lakers would be smart to draft Marcus Smart and call it a day.

Kobe's going to want to win during his window, so I wouldn't be surprised to see this pick traded.

LeBron James will opt out of contract with Miami Heat - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nba/truehoop/miamiheat/story/_/id/11127329/lebron-james-opt-contract-miami-heat)

Well this is huge

Could also mean he is looking to stay put by restructuring (and forcing Miami to make the right moves). If he didn't opt out, there's a higher chance of him probably splitting after next season.

On another note, I think Chicago is the best fit for Melo. If Rose is healthy (big if), he and Melo can worry about scoring and the rest of the team can play their normal defense.

It doesn't matter who they get in a trade, that team isn't going anywhere anytime soon. They'd have to bring in Carmelo and LeBron just to make them competitive and even then they wouldn't have the bench to outlast teams like the Spurs/Thunder/Rockets.

For one, Kobe is killing their cap with that enormous contract (24m/yr) of his and there is absolutely no way around it unless those guys are going to take HUGE paycuts and still wouldn't have enough for quality role players. Lakers are going to be stuck until Kobe's contract is up.

Oh, I totally agree with you. But the new(ish) front office placates Kobe instead of making rational basketball decisions (as proven by that contract you mentioned).

No surprises really in the draft. I really really wish Jordan would sell the Hornets. I don't think they'll ever win while he remains the owner.

Two PFs back to back? Both from Indiana? I realize the pick was the best talent on the board...but C'mon Man!!

I thought it was really cool of the NBA to "draft" the kid from Baylor.

^Agree. And it really is too bad he can't play anymore. He has legit talent, and it's even more impressive when you consider that he did it with just one eye. Hopefully he has a successful coaching career, if that's what he wants to do, to make up for this bad break.

Not really draft news, but multiple sources reporting Jason Kidd could be headed to Milwaukee. Never saw that coming
