over the mountain 09-11-2014, 02:06 PM OK, you guys caught me on that detail. My point is don't have a brain fart and let your man block a punt - ever. If a player who is making a good effort gets beat, I can accept that. It happens sometimes. But when a player gets beat because he is "out to lunch", as Gruden put it, that is unacceptable. That looked a lot like 2013 revisited to me.
Gruden said it may have been in some part attributable to Helu being a little winded since he was in some plays before the punt and said he is going to look into not having that happen.
CRedskinsRule 09-11-2014, 02:35 PM The point is: Turnovers killed us. They always do. We are not good enough to overcome them. The number of turnovers must be reduced. The worst type of turnovers (punt blocks, Red Zone fumbles, etc.) must be virtually eliminated.
Turnovers don't just happen randomly to all teams. The Redskins can greatly reduce them. For example, as Niles Paul broke free, he could have wrapped both arms around the ball to ensure that we kept possession. His catch was at a critical point in the game when he needed to protect the ball. Fate didn't intervene; he just had a brain fart and ****ed up.
Point is, it's the first game with a new head coach. The team as a whole did look better, but a lot of brain farts. So now we see what type of coach Gruden can be. How he handles them. Let's remember two facts:
A) Joe Gibbs 1 went 0-5 (thanks JR for reminding me of that)
B) Jim Zorn 1 (and only) went 6-2.
There will be growing pains, but right now, I put Gruden closer to Joe Gibbs then Jim Zorn.

Sunday's game reminded me of that a lot. In Gibbs' first five games, we beat people on the field but not on the scoreboard. The reason was stupid errors. It all was just like the Texans game, where we won the game on the field but not on the scoreboard.
Once Gibbs got the errors cleaned up, the rest was glorious history.
Let's see if Gruden can clean things up.
Chico23231 09-11-2014, 02:45 PM I'd like us to go ahead and start Long at rg this weekend. I think it could be an improvement.

5 of 5 pick us over Jacksonville. I'm gonna say Washington, Dallas, and Philadelphia win this week. NY loses to Arizona.

Gruden: TE J. Reed, DL K. Golston are doubtful for Sunday's game vs. Jaguars; CB T. Porter is out.
Washington Redskins @Redskins 6s
Gruden on home opener Sunday: "We need to try to strike fast and strike early, and try to get the home fans in it early."
Would you prefer a fast strike, or a long run based drive as the first possession?

first kickoff or Punt to us, return for a Touchdown. symbolic special team score would get me off the couch
SirLK26 09-11-2014, 03:29 PM Quick strike. A long return by Roberts, a long run by Morris, then a long TD pass off playaction to DeSean.
By the way, did you all hear Jason Hatcher's Houston sack was rescinded? I think it was Zac Boyer on Twitter who reported it first. I guess I don't know the rules for that kind of thing, but it's bullsh*t for Hatcher. So anyway, technically at least, our supposedly improved pass rush didn't get to the QB even once.
BaltimoreSkins 09-11-2014, 03:29 PM I would prefer a long sustained drive.

In my world, scoring on your first possession, no matter how it happens, is "to strike fast."
