GoSkins! 04-27-2005, 08:28 PM The question is, is he being underpaid? I'm sorry to tell you this but the only time one can ask for a raise isn't during their annual salary evaluation.
Yeah, but if they say no to the raise, the rest of us still have to come to work.
The real problem here is that the owners should either make offseason workouts mandatory or just don't allow them at all. I know that there are issues with the players association, but it appears that teams really expect their players to attend. If it's important, they need to change the rules, make them mandatory, and be done with it. It's ironic that it's always the richest players that don't attend while the lowest paid players bust thier ass. It says alot about the character of the guys who don't show up.
jdlea 04-27-2005, 11:06 PM I can see both sides. I agree, if you sign the contract stating you'll play, then play. However, I can understand a second round pick being sick of his first contract. That's bs. Boldin put up huge numbers and I know he wouldn't make a million this year. I wouldn't play for less either. He's worth about 4 or so, he should get it. Portis was putting up 1500 yards for 450k. If you're a top ten guy at your position and you got picked in the second round. I can understand being upset.

I know, I know. I have a HUGE problem with the money pro-athletes are paid. I just think a lot of them whine when they are getting paid more money than even the smartest people in this country will ever see.
SkinsRock 04-29-2005, 04:06 PM I have excelled in my job. I think I'm going to stop going to "voluntary" meetings that directly affect what I do until they give me a raise. And if that doesn't work, I'll stop showing up to work all together until I get the money I think I deserve. How long do you think that will last???
Pro athletes are disgusting. "I'm not happy with my multi-million dollar contract"...."I came in as an underdog, but have proven that I am a quality player, so I should make that kind of money now, as opposed to the contract I SIGNED." Whatever!!! I respect someone like Smoot who actually played through his rookie deal, then took the big money deal he wanted and had earned, even though it meant leaving the Redskins.
BrudLee 04-29-2005, 04:33 PM Please let's NOT coompare Boldin and T.O. - Owens signed his deal last year, when he thought he was one of the best WR's out there. Turns out he was right, and now he wants more? When you asked T.O. who the best receiver in the league was before his "trade" to Philly, he would have said himself. So Philly isn't the problem there - he created his situation.
Boldin has a better case, but is less likely to pull it off. He may be the best receiver on his team - but he may not. The "Rookie of the Year" in 2003 is nice, but it's 2005-06 now, and your team drafted another WR last year with the second pick. Fitzgerald is goinig to put up good numbers, and Bryant Johnson is pretty good as well. Since you can only throw so many passes in a game (and with Kurt Warner throwing them, a good portion are almost guaranteed to go to the other team), Boldin isn't going to be a 100-catch guy in the coming years. So, even though he is outperforming his contract, he isn't likely to see more money from the Cardinals - and when his contract does end, he won't have the stats to break out on the free agent market.
RedskinsJunkie 04-29-2005, 04:37 PM we are going to hear the argument about the owners being able to cut you anytime and no guarenteed money, but that is the reason for the huge signing bonuses now...
The reason for the huge signing bonus is to be able to rpo rate it so the cap hit isn't as large in the first few years. Not to save the player from getting cut. That is why the players have no real money in the first 3 years and the yearly salarys swell huge in the final years of the contract so the team can cut them.
Hijinx 04-29-2005, 08:47 PM I would really like to see the NFL put an end to the whole non-mantory minicamp thing. This would take this ploy out of the agent's bag of tricks. Then if someone misses a practice you can start hiting him in the bank account. The other thing that causes this proplem is that none to the contracts are guaranteed. If a team can rip up players' contracts at will then the players feel they can as well.
Redskins8588 05-03-2005, 03:29 AM Here is some more good news for us concerning TO.
"Don't want to alarm Eagles fans, but there are more and more signs wide receiver Terrell Owens' holdout could be a long one. A real loooooong one.
At a minicamp over the weekend, Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter warned that the Eagles could not count on T.O. being on the field this season. Another NFL general manager expressed a similar thought, saying he wouldn't be surprised if T.O. sat out the season.
Everyone knows T.O. is very strong minded, and right now his mind is set on landing a new deal, something the Eagles have given no indication they are willing to give. It's still early, but get ready for many more T.O. updates from now through training camp and into the season."

The big problem is I dont get paid enough, Snyder needs to throw a little love my way :) lol.
TheMalcolmConnection 05-03-2005, 08:45 AM Most definitely! He has the money to spread it around.
Why not send some to all of us that defend him? (at least I do)
