another baseball one is that streak of 30 some innings orel hershiser didn't allow a run I think back in the mid to late 80s.

I think Hershiser had 59 consecutive scoreless innings pitched

No record is unbreakable. Armstrong had the luxury of having a team that did everything in the world to help him win, and all he does is that race which he trains all year for. Another luxury most bikers don't get the oppurtunity to take advantage of. He's still a great biker, but he has advantages besides his athletic ability.

Cy Young's record will never be broken. How many did he win 500 or 600? It is truely amazing record. I think it could be awhile before Bonds single season home run record is broken, the the steroid testing going on now. Richard Petty's 200 wins will not be broken due to less races and more of an even field racing now. In sprint car racing there will never be another Steve Kinser (gotta follow something since football takes off for so long).

Just like Walton Payton's record would never be beaten? All records were made, therefore can always be one upped as long as there's a medium to do it.

Even the most pessimistic puppy kicker would have to admit-I think-that some records are highly untouchable, such as Cy Young's 511 career wins.

It's impressive without a doubt, but I don't think it's untouchable. Did anyone think Cy would get 511 wins when he started? Doubt it. Who says 512 couldn't come. You'd have to play for a damn long time, but I cans ee it happening eventually.

well the thing about Cy Youngs record is that most if not all of that came against inferiour talent and he never competed against anyone other than white men to achieve his record. He also pitched in an era where I believe they pitched on 3 day cycles. Now a days its going to be difficult for pitchers to break the 300-350 win mark much less 511. To put it in perspective a 20 year old pitcher would have to win an average of 20 games a year for 26 years to get 520 wins and with 5 man rotations and the frequent injuries occuring now, I personally believe the possibility is very very remote.

I am generally in your camp on stuff like this but I would say with 100% confidence that it is impossible with the way the game is now played for Young's record to be broken. Is it possible that the dynamics of the gaem could change so greatly that it would be posible? Yeah it is possible but not even remotely likely. 511 wins is untouchable plaina nd simple. Guys are revered when they get to 300 now. 511 would mean 10 more years at 20 wins a season. Not gonna happen.
