The Broncos sure have made some interesting moves this offseason: Rice, Gerard Warren, Courtney Brown, Ron Dayne and drafting 3 cornerbacks with their first 3 picks. Not to mention Maurice Clarett at the end of the 3rd round

I think Shannan gave a freudian slip on the NFL Network.......he made a joke about signing Clarett and said it was all to give the team some publicity.....hmmm bet that's true not just for Clarett but Rice too.......
get the team noticed...........

Maybe THEY can get some bad publicity too.

Mmmmm. Publicity.

The Rice signing makes sense to me. While the Broncos already have a great veteran WR in Rod Smith, they've got a whole bunch of young, relatively unproven wideouts who could learn a lot about the game from Rice. Besides, Rice signed for a bowl of peanuts and a beer.

With their arch rival, Oakland, getting all the pub with the signing of Moss, the Bronocs felt neglected ;)

Rice would have been good here in DC. As a leader his experience would be invaluable. Especially with a young batch of receivers with a lot to learn.

About Clarett, NFL.com had a video of him up and he looked great. Everyone was complimenting him.

That makes sense, but how much did Rice teach the Seahawks receivers during his time there? I guess we'll find out this season right?

I don't think Rice's motivation for playing is to mentor young WRs.

He's playing to extend his stats a little more and because in his head he still thinks he's a #1 WR. Otherwise known as yet another great athlete who doesn't know when to hang it up.

I'd kind of like to see Clarrett have a good year. He's in the right system for it...

I know he's a douche, but maybe its one of those stories of someone overcoming adversity...

...and all that BS.

TAFKAS:

Your recollection of how Monk came to leave the Skins is how I have heard the story told more than a couple of times.

One other "strange" Broncos' move this offseason has to be the acquisition of Todd Sauerbraun after his association with the doctor handing out steroid prescriptions in the Panthers' locker room... Maybe Art Shanhan is having a flashback to the days when he coached the Raiders?

Thanks for the confirmation Curmudgeon...

By the way, anyone else find it odd and a bit disconcerting that Rice didn't want to ask Rod Smith for #80 because had so much respect for him, yet he had no problem requesting #80 when he went to the Seahawks?

Granted, I understand that Steve Largent has long since retired but Largent deserves a little more respect than that, doesn't he?
