One thing that had me happy about Sunday's win over the NYG was the secondary. As banged up as the secondary was, they contributed to the win. I'm keeping my eye on the kid Dunbar.

I guess Fewell is the genius behind the Dunbar conversion to CB:

--Give Washington secondary coach Perry Fewell credit. He hasn't had a full deck of cards with that unit since the second day of training camp when Bashaud Breeland was both suspended one game by the NFL and sustained a knee injury. Within a week Fewell was begging coach Jay Gruden to lend him wide receiver Quinton Dunbar, an undrafted rookie with little chance of making the roster.

Well, Dunbar did make the practice squad. But as a cornerback. That's how impressive he was during camp with long arms on a 6-foot-2 frame. Sunday, he intercepted Eli Manning in the end zone to help the Redskins to a 20-14 win. Add in injuries to Chris Culliver (torn ligaments, right knee), now lost for the season, and DeAngelo Hall (plantar plate tear, right toe), and a disastrous start from former second-round pick David Amerson, and Fewell's group could have fallen apart.

Instead, veteran Will Blackmon was brought in and has provided a stabilizing presence, and young players like Dunbar and Deshazor Everett have held their own. Rookie Kyshoen Jarrett has been a jack-of-all trades bouncing between safety and nickel corner. Somehow, it's all worked.

"(Fewell is) not a big yell-at-you, in-your-face type guy. He's more of a great, fundamental teacher," Gruden said. "And when you have great teachers like that -- (defensive coordinator) Joe Barry does a good job -- it makes the transition from one position to another pretty smooth.

Veteran DeAngelo Hall, who spent the first 13-plus years of his NFL career as one of the top cornerbacks in the league, where he was named a Pro Bowler three times, is now listed as the starter at the strong safety position. Listed behind him are Trenton Robinson and Jeron Johnson, although Robinson has not played the past two games with a hamstring injury.

-- That means Bashaud Breeland officially moves into Hall's spot as one of the top two cornerbacks, and Quinton Dunbar remains behind him. With Chris Culliver out for the year with a torn ACL and MCL, Will Blackmon is now officially listed as the starter at the other cornerback spot, with Deshazor Everett and Dashaun Phillips, who was signed to the active roster from the practice squad on Friday, behind him.

very interesting to see Hall at the SS starter...what a disappointment Jeron Johnson has been. I imagine Jarrett will continue at slot corner

I'm curious, I remember when we got Johnson the fan base (me included) got excited because we were taking a backup from the Legion of Boom and figuring that he might be very good, just stuck behind some great players in Chancellor and Earl Thomas.

But we only signed Johnson for close to league minimum. Seems like nobody else really wanted him much.

I don't remember the Redskins ever behaving like they thought Johnson was the answer, I remember them always couching it that Johnson and Ihenacho would compete to play.

Unless I'm wrong on that, I think this is a classic case of where the fanbase got carried away. Still though, for Johnson to not even be reliable enough to prevent the team from converting an aging corner to play his spot, not good.

At least we're not on the hook for a big contract.

I don't remember hearing his name good or bad recently, so I'm wondering how well he's actually playing. Just a guy or a liability?

Usually when you dont remember hearing his name recently you can pretty much rule out the playing good part.....

I feel like smart teams know which GMs have a good eye for talent, and figure that if they're going to take a flyer on somebody, it might as well be on a player who was liked by a GM with a reputation like McCloughan's.

to me its just another drop in the bucket that validates Scot's abilities and what other league guys think of his eye for talent. He found an undrafted rookie we didnt have room for but other teams think he is worth a roster spot. kinda nice to see our PS guys getting plucked.
