We finally have a deep receiving corp.. and a QB.....and a decent O-line.
Why not take it out for a test drive and clean out the fluorocarbons?

The only way carrying over Garcon's cap space makes any sense at all is if you think we'll have to cut a valuable player next year in order to make room for Cousins's contract.

And if you think we need to make such a cut, then you haven't looked at our cap situation next year.

It's more of the notion if the emergence of Doctson/Crowder make him expendable. I like Garcon, but I'm a numbers kind of guy. I think salary caps eventually come to bite teams in the ass, especially if they have QBs who hamper their cap. The Ravens and Saints were at the mercy of their QBs because of the shit contracts they signed with made for bloated cap figures later on causing them to have to restructure them, which in turn gives them more money and kicks that cap can down the road. I don't want this team in that situation when we have a good core together.

I think Garcon's talent will have to be head and shoulders above Doctson/Crowder to justify a 10mil cap. Players have been cut for much much less. I'm fine either way to be honest with you. I have no qualms with keeping or cutting Garcon. To me, he's just too inconsistent for it to matter to me. The fact that DJ can't stay healthy will most likely make this a moot point anyway.

I kind of stopped reading at the first sentence. If a frog had wings he wouldn't bump his ass when he hops.

I'm not interested in taking a chance on depth at WR when we don't need Garcon's cap space carrying over into 2017.

I did say it was a gamble. :joecool: :laughing-

I'll say it for you Schneed, cutting Garçon would be retarded. It would create a significant hole regarding our WR depth. DJ isn't exactly the most reliable health wise, so he goes down and we have to rely on a rookie as the go to guy? Dumb.

What has happened to me. Have I gone soft? Am I becoming too PC?

Well said.

Bold prediction time, next year we re-sign Garçon and let Jackson walk. Doctson will be the playmaker with his leaping ability and crazy catch radius.

That is bold. I'd be fine with re-signing him at a much lower number. Doctson is definitely that explosive element we're looking for to replace Djax. Unlike Djax, Doctson is going to be able to leap over DBs for those big plays. Djax relies on his speed alone, which isn't enough at times.

It's interesting to me that as between our 3 leading receivers and now Doctson, we really have the 4 paradigmatic receiving types covered:

1. speedster -- DJax
2. physical, possession receiver -- Garcon
3. shifty slot guy -- Crowder
4. tall target w/ big catch radius -- Doctson

That pretty much covers it (and I am not even mentioning our TEs here which obviously are important). We know the first 3 WRs above can excel in those roles as they've proved it already; Doctson certainly looks like he has great potential. Hard to think of any team with WRs that can be all of these things.

Folks raised the good question re: how long we'll be able to keep them together because of cap concerns -- and it may be just this year in the absence of some serious re-structuring/reductions. But it sure would be great to have this WR corps together for a while and see what they can do -- it will be a nightmare for opposing DBs as long as Cousins has a little time to throw. If we do this 4 WR set, how do you really cover this?

we could resign both garcon and DJ next year, i just don't think it's likely unless we really have nothing better to do with the money. we'll see how the year goes though.
