sdskinsfan2001 02-28-2018, 11:15 AM Ok, this is a hard question for me to answer, I wanted to see what you all think. If the following players are all somehow available at 13 who would you take:
A. Barkley
B. Nelson
C. Ridley
D. Vea
E. R. Smith
F. None of the above

sdskinsfan2001 02-28-2018, 11:21 AM I just don't see the fit for Payne. He is the same size as Jonathan Allen which is a bit undersized for an NFL DT. Heck, he even has a similar skill set to that of Allen. So, the way I see it, we already have what Payne brings to the party in Jonathan Allen.
What we really need is a big, fat run stuffer. I think we should take a run at Bennie Logan or the big dude from Atlanta in FA. If we don't sign one of those two, then Vea would be very high on my wish list.
He's already about 20 lbs heavier than Allen. This NFL profile says he'll be the premier run stuffer in the draft.

First of all, Barkley needs to be taken off the list. He just can't fall to #13. That aside, I'd have to go with Nelson. From what I've seen of him, he is one of the top OL to come out of college in many years. I'd rank him second overall behind Barkley but some teams just don't appreciate OG play as much as they should, so it's possible, if unlikely, that he could fall to #13 just as Allen fell to us last year. I think the Skins should start a rumor that Nelson has health issues to make it happen (j/k).
I think Nelson could elevate our OL to elite status. He'd be playing next to an All-Pro OT on one side and, I believe, an up and coming young C who should make great strides this coming season. Even pedestrian RB's should be able to gain decent yardage running behind that OL.

Good post. He's bigger than I thought. I think Payne is an outstanding player. I wouldn't mind a bit if the Skins draft him. He can play 3-4 DE and 4-3 DT for us but I still prefer a huge NT if we can get one. I'd like to get that NT in FA or by trade, if we can, and I'd also re-sign Phil Taylor if he is recovered from his injury.

Vea is my preference but I'd have zero complaints with Payne either.
sdskinsfan2001 02-28-2018, 12:03 PM If Barkley, Nelson, or Fitzpatrick is available you giggle all the way up to the podium and add a top 5 player at 13.
KI Skins Fan 02-28-2018, 12:06 PM Here's what Mike Mayock had to say about Vita Vea:
"He is a dancing bear. He's a freak,” Mayock said. “He's 340 pounds, and everybody says he's going to run a sub 5.40. The last defensive lineman to do that was Dontari Poe, and I think he went at No. 11. And Vea is a better player than Poe was coming out of college, more advanced. He's a plug-and-play nose tackle in any scheme. If he runs 4.85 or 4.9 at 342 pounds, to me that's more impressive than watching John Ross run a 4.”
Defensewins 02-28-2018, 12:12 PM Drafting Barkley or any RB or WR with our first round pick would be the definition of the expressions putting "the cart before the horse".
Excellent lineman are very expensive in FA and should be a priority in the draft.
It is looking like several teams drafting ahead of us at 13 will be reaching for QB's.
There are a ton of QB needy teams desperate to reach for a QB early in the draft. That benefits us greatly.
“As far as interior offensive line class, the top end of it’s really good," Mayock said in a conference call on Monday.
OG Notre Dame’s Quenton Nelson is a instant starter and star.
OSU center/guard Billy Price is a rock.
Aubrun OG Braden Smith and UTEP OG Will Hernandez are strong.
There is a huge drop off in talent after these guys. We must get one of them.
They will not be there when we pick in the second round.
Getting a second tier guard in the free agency is getting another Shawn Lauvao.
I do not want that.

They said the same about guys like Marcel Darreus, I'd like to have the guy but I'm not saying he's going to be a great player right away. I know u aren't either

I do not want that.I'm not sure all of them will be gone by our second pick. Guards are undervalued, but I agree in principle, I think NT is very similar in this regard, so I throw Vea and Payne in this same category.
That said, Id take Barkley over Hernandez, Price, or Smith.
Nelson, Barkley, and Vea are elite IMO. You don't turn down elite for excellent even at a hard to find position.
Edit: I've also heard a lot of good things about Isaiah Wynn and Wyatt Teller. I need to watch done of Teller because I've seen him ranked much lower than these guys. Point being, I think you can get a good starting G in rounds 2 and 3 of this draft, but to your point, Nelson is head and shoulders above Teir 2.
