I am 100% down with going with a vet. Ideally, you draft your young stud QB and he becomes your Manning or Brady or Rodgers or Rivers or Wilson or even a Matthew Stafford ... but if you arent in a position to take a Trevor Lawrence, why not do what the Colts did and sign a vet like Philip Rivers. This team is close to winning imo. The DL is a great core that gives us a window from 2021 to 2025. We intentionally didnt spend in FA this year. Cap next year is expected to SHRINK to 175M ... that means teams like New Orleans who would be 70M over the cap already may cut Brees. 2021 free agency is going to be the strangest year ever imo. Teams may be cutting some real studs. I see the logic, and I definitely agree on the reasoning of bringing in a vet if you can't get the player you want in the draft (rather than risk a pick on a guy you can't be confident about). But personally I'd avoid a vet that's tailing off. Brees looks to me like his arm is finally dying on him and Newton looks like the same passer he was in Carolina the last couple of years. While he is a prototypical pocket passer, I'd prefer Ryan, albeit he would absolutely need 2-3 more quality players to target. We'd need at least 1 if not 2 quality WR's, a quality receiving TE and another threat out of the backfield to go with Gibson (in the Chris Thompson mould). At least Cam can still run, but the likes of Brees and Ryan mean you have to have weapons they can throw to, as they definitely can't run. I'd even consider Fitzmagic in the same category.
