Was it really "magical" though? I mean, an expansion team starting up today wouldn't touch the name Redskins. In order to future proof the name, I think avoiding colors in the name is the smart move.

Either way, that issue is over and done for me. Time to move forward.

I think Commanders makes the most sense. It can tie into the military as well as a nod to politics in DC. It's generic and not offensive even with the most magical of thinking.

Magical if not delusional. The indigenous peoples of the Americas do not have red colored skin. I would think that obvious, but there's that magical thinking again.

We are moving forward. We are not discussing bringing Redskins back. We are discussing what would be the best name and that is where you and I diverge radically.

I favor something that keys in on continuity and history. Something that can retain most of our logos, our fight song, and similar. The advantage to that is we move forward without completely jettisoning the past. The change is minor, nontraumatic, and gets us well away from the woke's crosshairs.

You favor a complete makeover from top to bottom. You are getting an NFL expansion team in all but name (pun intended). The only link to the past will be .... <drum roll> .... Daniel Snyder. In essence, you will be rooting for a team with a USFL sounding name owned by a scuzz. Frankly, I do not see any appeal in that.

Now, don't get me wrong. If you are cool with that, more power to you. But imho if we are getting a new team, why not choose a new team like Green Bay which is run by people of a serious nature?

Im calling them Skins now and probably for a long long time.

IM sure over time, maybe 3 decades, Ill start to call them the Admirals but until then, it seems foreign to me.

Pigskins would have been a good name too.

Washington Pigskins.

AMEN! I'm tired of the whining about the old name. I have it tattooed into my arm for Christ's sake and I'm ready to move on!

Nobody is whining about anything. He implied Redhawks of all things might be construed as racist. I simply offered a polite response.

It is rather hard to discuss our impending new name without occasionally referencing the old one. That does not amount to whining.

As for your arm, best get that removed if you really are serious about moving on.

I'm really not a big fan of Commanders or Admirals, etc. But what is wrong with celebrating our military / military history? If you want to cheer for endless wars that send our young men to die for no cause other then to line the pockets of our oligarchs, and drone strikes that kill innocent children, then have at it. You have a right to your own opinion, but I am squarely on the other side of that issue.

If the name was the Militia or Continental's or something similar and was clearly not associated with the modern day military industrial complex, I could get behind it. That's not what they're going for.

As a Vet myself I can't be mad at your feelings towards this but just be mindful of others on here. I've lost men and women that served with me. This is a VERY SENSITVE subject to many.

I'm just trying to think from the team's perspective and why they would want to avoid putting red in the name again. I think they want to start fresh and not give anyone the chance to misconstrue the name again. They're keeping the colors, so that's the tie to the past. The use and meaning of words change over time, what's harmless today might not be down the road. Redtails sounds harmless enough today, who knows down the line. I know it sounds crazy but I'd guarantee that's part of their thinking.
