(VA and DC had rises in vehicle deaths last year .. be safe on the road. Buy a dash camera, try not to change lanes unnecessarily, wait a second and look both ways before going on a green from a red)

I fully understand those who are looking at this with the prevailing thought being what a shame, and no amount of picking apart what happened will make it any less sad and tragic. But I'm just not personally built that way. Someone dies who I care about, or who I once cared about, even if only for his being a player on my favorite team, I want to understand what happened.

Knowing won't bring him back but I still want to know. Understanding that Sean Taylor died defending his family from a break-in brought me an even greater understanding of who he was as a person, something that can sometimes be hard through the media.

I've never run out of gas either. But I have a hard time seeing how anybody can conclude that trying to cross an interstate is a remotely safe thing to try to do. Mooby the layout of the highway was known - he wasn't stranded in the left lane like an HOV around DC - he was in the right shoulder and when he crossed he was reported as being in the middle of the right lane and eventually struck there.

Seems like it was either a moment of incredibly poor judgment, or a moment of impaired judgment. Sad no doubt but I still want to know which.

And most of all, drive 65 in the left lane to keep traffic from going too fast. Be the change you want to see in the world.

I'm not trying to make sense of it really. Dude joins the long list of those that died too young, and that sucks. Beyond that I don't need it to "make sense".

Maybe he tried to cross the road, because that was the quickest way to the nearest gas station.

Maybe he was so drunk he thought the dump truck was the gas station.

Maybe he didn't see the truck, or he misjudged how much time he had to cross, because the truck was speeding.

Maybe he didn't hear the truck because he had earbuds in.

Maybe he was just smoked from a long day and wasn't thinking clearly.

Who knows? It's all speculation at this point. I guess I just don't understand why people are so eager to see that toxicology report, or put all the pieces of the puzzle together, other than to hopefully validate their theories that he was a shit bag and made bad decisions until he finally perished because of one of them.

The puzzle pieces need to be put together, not to validate personal bias, but to learn lessons about how things happen and why so changes can be implemented that reduce or eliminate the factors that cause the accident. Nailed it. Anytime I hear of a death I like to learn the circumstances because there's often a lesson to be learned. Maybe it's a lesson we all know well and good already, but still doesn't hurt to reinforce it.

I don't want to die young. I especially don't want my daughters to die young. So if I see a risky behavior resulted in a death, you're damn right I use it as an example with my kids of what can happen when you fail to think.

IMO(nothing more) If the Police are satisfied and his Family is satisfied and from the last report I heard they are, then while we might want to know how what and why it's really none of our business.

Single victim accident with no 3rd parties effected ... put me in the camp that just wants to respect the grieving families privacy.

Saying we need to know Haskins toxicology so we can sit down with our kids to pass on lessons learned so no pedestrian will ever be killed again .. blah blah blah.

Public doesnt need to know his toxicology report. Its a private matter.

I'd argue it wasn't just a single victim accident, unless we are just assuming the dump truck driver isn't traumatized at all

Well that's sum booshit. If he was drunk or high, that means he was driving drunk on a public highway. Because you can't get your car stranded on the side of the road and come up with a toxicology result without having driven it there under the influence. Ergo, in the event of such a toxicology report, he broke the law.

And all police reports are public information. Toxicology report is part and parcel to it.
