We havent had a running back avg more than 3.4 yards a carry in a while.
Monday B Rob had 26 carries for 86 yds, 3.3 avg w his long run of 11 yds. Gibson was 14/44/3.1/7
Not sure running it 45 times at a 3.3 clip is sustainable for winning.
If you're converting 3rd and manageables at a good clip and playing good D it can get the job done

I agree. We haven't been able to break any long runs either. For one week it worked but it's not sustainable long term.

just reminded me .. we didnt have many false start/holding penalties that put behind the sticks.
which is nice .... also not sustainable.

Well they've won 4 out of 5 with the current approach, I know what also isn't sustainable, trying to open up the offense and have TH throw it 30+ times. Pounding the rock is our best hope.

Iggles are a pretty stout defense, and even so we were successful running the ball. I also think that for less stout defenses, and as he improves his game, B. Rob is due for some long running plays.

BTW, 3.4 yards per carry means you are getting a first down with 3 carries. I noted that we did something against the Eagles that I cannot recall in a long time -- we ran on 3rd and 4. And picked up the first. We had a bunch of 1st down pickups on 3rd and 1 (and I think we only failed to pick up the first once in short yardage).
Pound the rock.

It is only a matter of time before Gibson or Robinson (or both) breaks a long one.

Also, we can run the ball with:
- B. Rob
- Gibson
- Curtis
- TH
- McKissic (if/when healthy)
Plenty of players to spread the ball to in the running game.
With our running backs, a modest improvement in the OL would go a long way toward nudging 3.5 ypc into the 4 range. And that pounding ground game opens more single coverage on McLaurin or Dotson. It also wears down even good defenses to give you an edge in the 2nd half. This is the Gibbs formula for winning without so-called franchise QBs. Until we find the next Mahomes or Brady, I’ll take it.
