punch it in 10-02-2023, 06:47 PM Howell is from Charlotte, NC. I was giving u shit back
I know he is. Lol.
To be exact Waynesville. Just outside Asheville. Which is an amazing little city.
Asheville not Waynesville. Waynesville is a small town but surrounded by some absolutely beautiful country.
Just for the record wasn’t really giving you shit, it just seems like a lot of people you are high on are west coasters. Makes sense you live there and hear about them more than we do. Anyway was just a dumb joke that somehow spawned a conversation about Waynesville NC.

FrenchSkin 10-02-2023, 07:33 PM My bad. I guess the flip side of that is if you don't trust them to make one play how do you trust them to make a 75 yard drive? Regardless I am not upset by the decision. I would have liked the gamble but think going to OT is also fair. I've just been waiting to tell you to go eat some brillat-savarin when we disagree on something. So took my shot.
Well, in that even a FG would have done the trick. And in that situation, yes I'd rather have have 4 chances to make 10 yards several times than gamble everything on one play after an exciting but rocky drive where it's not like they were imposing their will on every play.
And, Matty, I have a hard time getting how Ron's "offense was gassed" excuse is weak ? How would have losing the game on a play he knew his players didn't have a lot of chance to convert been smart ?
"-Coach that 2 pt conv looked awful, with 3 Dlinemen in the backfield in the blink of a eye, and Howell fumbling the ball back 20 yards, hindsight is 20/20 but could you walk us through the decision to go for 2 in that situation ?
-Well, I knew they were exhausted after that drive, but I'm a tough as nail coach and I never take into account anything my players say or feel, so I went for 2 cuz I wanted to!"
Evaluating if your players are in a position to make the play should indeed be part of the decision process IMO.
(Love the bolded part :food-smil )
PorkSkins 10-02-2023, 07:33 PM I have to say that was a hell of a game. The last drive in regular time was very impressive!
Let me ask, how many think you should have gone for two and ended it then, one way or another?
One of my friends, who was watching the game with me, immediately said, "Go for two" right after Dotson's TD. I quickly replied, "Hell no!" Then I thought about it for a few seconds and agreed with my friend. We had some momentum and I had no issues going for the win in regulation.
With that said, I had no problem with Rivera going for the tie and take the game into OT. If it was me, I would've gone for the two-point conversion and the win in regulation.

Offense is too gassed to run one play so we are going to play OT?
FrenchSkin 10-02-2023, 07:42 PM Offense is too gassed to run one play so we are going to play OT?
Yes, give them a few minutes to regroup, rather than gamble everything on a play you almost know they're not going to make...
Players get out a couple of plays after a big play (WR, DL etc...), so yeah, a few minutes does make a difference (that's what she said).
PorkSkins 10-02-2023, 07:44 PM While I'm not going to kill Ron over the decision, but I would have gone for 2.
But what I will kill him over is his weak explanation saying the offense was gassed. Fuck that man, as head coach you own the decision.
Rivera's explanation was as weak as ten years old soda. He's been known to occasionally say ridiculous stuff throughout his tenure in DC.
SFREDSKIN 10-02-2023, 07:44 PM Offense is too gassed to run one play so we are going to play OT?
Maybe he meant they ate beans and were farting. What a weak ass excuse by Ron. I did agree with going into OT and had a chance if the refs opened their eyes, Terry was in. That was a huge call.
sdskinsfan2001 10-02-2023, 07:47 PM I can't buy that a group of grown ass men who are elite athletes were too tired to lineup for 1 more fucking play, to beat a legit super bowl contender on the road. Don't buy it for a second, and it's even worse if true. Also, wouldn't the defense be just as tired, on top of being on their heels after giving up the TD? Rivera just covering his own ass like he always does. I don't care if people were fine kicking the XP and going to OT, I would have went for it. But Rivera's reasoning was the most ridiculous reasoning possible.
