Obviously the players union and nfl will have to negotiate this.

The current labor deal is until the 2030 season. The current tv contract is until the 2033 season but has an opt out for 2029. I think the nfl will definitely opt out of the tv contract in 29. My guess the NFL wants the 18th game no later than 2029 but definitely earlier.

It will be interesting to see the give and take.

NFL is a bunch of greedy cucks. They are going to ruin the NFL by having it on way too much. 16 games was already plenty. Now even 17 isn't good enough. I bet the ultimate goal is 20 games.

i'd be fine with 52 games . . . lol . . . watching other sports pales in comparison to me, but in reality, with the abuse these guys take, 17 is enough!!

I'd say the only way to expand to more games is a bigger roster limit and revising the practice squad rules again. Maybe even the draft too. I doubt many players, especially linemen, could healthily sustain more than 18 games, not to mention the playoffs. And do it for multiple seasons.

If I can ask a question here. Players salaries are based on a 17 game season for now, so what happens to players under contract when a extra game is added? Is the salary cap increased to add for the games?

The players association will absolutely ask for a pro-rata increase in salary, as well they should. Otherwise, the NFL profits and the players take a pay-cut.

They'll get an adjustment per extra game, as they did when going to 17 games, but it's arguable that's not proportional to the increased risk of injury. And expect a drop to 2 PS games. I'm curious if the value to coaches of PS games would mean they keep 2, even if they increase to 20 games in due course.

There shouldn't even be a pre-season. 1 game at most for the fringe roster guys coaches are still making a decision on. Football is too violent to play any more games than absolutely necessary. 1 pre-season game and 17 regular season games is plenty of football!

Count in me in the camp that wants an EVEN number of games. 17 is not right considering some teams get an extra home game. Honestly surprised the NFL even does this considering it's blatantly unfair but they know how addicted fans are. 18 is too many reg. season games. 16 was perfect but doubt we see that again.
