Apparently the Olympics are cutting these 2 sports, and possibly replacing them with a choice of the following sports: golf, rugby, squash, karate and roller sports. Hopfully rugby will be one of the sports, it isnt football but close enough...

they aren't going to replace them in 2012...Karate and Squash were the front runners and they lost a vote of confidence.

they're going to divert those funds into other sports, including 2 more women's soccer teams.

I'd love to see Olympic Golf - there seems to be enough talent around the world to make that interesting.

They should probably disqualify Kim Jong-Il (http://216.26.163.62/2004/ea_nkorea_06_16.html) though.

Me too, I think olymipic golf would be amazing. I really, really hope that makes it in.

I don't think it was a popularity issue with baseball - it was a talent issue. The professional leagues in America and Asia play during the Olympics season, and no teams were going to release any talented players to participate. Even minor leaguers were reluctant to play, because they didn't want to miss a call-up. We ended up fielding a team primarily of college players, and while the results were good, the product was not of an "Olympic quality".
