20 roster spots per team though?

Like Jamaican 'Skin, I'm a poor college kid who'd love to get into a game. Let me know when you get details about cost, equipment, rules, etc. Hope it works out. :biggthump

There's no way I (and a lot of other people) would be able to make it, so my suggestion and request is for someone to video the event and post it on the site so the rest of us can watch. I figured that was planned on already but I didn't see any mention of it thus far so I brought it up.

Depending on PSU schedule I would love to come down. Anyone looking for a 6'1" 245lb OLB/h-back with the Postons as agents lemme know. :headbange

Since we'll have 20 roster spots, if a roster spot is $100 that would amount to $2000 for the charity. I have no idea what amount a charity would deem worthwhile though. Maybe they'd work with us for $500, maybe they need more, Joe Crisp do you know?

Really, I'm thinking these roster spots will be driven by supply and demand. There would be a minimum starting bid, and from there it would just depend on who is willing to bid the most. I have only been on this site for a couple months, but I'm not sure I can see 20 different people on here shelling out $100 each for a roster spot. But Joe Crisp is the man on these questions.

TAFKAS is our contact man for The Good Samaritan Foundation, and he'd be able to get the bottom line info from them, but I'm thinking we'd need to generate around $10,000 total charitable income (the money raised from the roster auctions from all the sites involved) for this to be a viable event. Any amount for a charity is fine, of course, but we want this to be an annual event, and in order for that to happen, we need to show the sponsors and the charity that we mean business-- literally!

Remember, we're the smallest Redskins fan website-- in terms of total membership (just over 1,000)-- of the "Big 4" non-profit Redskins sites. That means the supply and demand dynamic for our roster spots is going to be a little less competitive than it will be for the other sites-- especially Extremeskins, which boasts over 34,000 members. Combined, all of the websites should be able to produce a total contribution in the range of $8,000 to $10,000.

I was thinking that a minimum bid of $35 would be reasonable, and that competitive bidding would likely drive the average winning bids into the range of $100 or so. That may be optimistic, but it may also be a very conservative estimate.

I think a lot depends on what we're able to do with sponsors, and what potential prizes we might have on the line for the winning team and MVPs of the tournament. If we can line up some great prizes, folks might be willing to bid a little higher for an opportunity to compete for the goodies. Obviously, trophies and awards would be in order, but some cool toys might also up the ante a bit.

That's what we're looking at right now. Since the flag football format would be 8-on-8, that would allow for a full offensive and defensive roster, as well as four reserve spots for each team.

Do you think it should be more or less than that? Whatever input you guys have is certainly welcome.

I think that's about right. However, the more spots, the easier it will be for people to afford to at least "be" on the team.

I'm not sure charging admission for spectators would be a good idea, but have a place to solicit donations and a PA to talk about the charity etc would definately be a good idea...

That's true. But also I think that if people were charged maybe five bucks, they would be willing to pay since it's such a negligible amount and if it was a decent turnout that would raise a lot of money for the organization. Also, if there are more players or coaches involved, people would be more willing to pay to watch and get autographs.

An organized concession stand might also generate some cash. Probably only a couple hundred bucks but it would add to the "event" feel. I think to get to the 8000-10000 range we need to come up with every way possible to make money.
I have been involved with fund raisers before and the most important thing is getting some celebs that people care about and would pay to play for AND come see. Monk and Mann would be utterly fantastic. Maybe Mr Cooley would be willing to oblige but I imagine you all have gone down the list looking for people.
I think trying to get some memorabilia to auction off would be a good idea.
I wonder if the skins would be interested in sending some of their productions guys out to tape the event for redskins.com? I mea if this could be an actual "event" then they definitly might want in on the action. Has anyone considered contacting the Cheerleaders? They do tons of charitable stuff.
