Why aren't we risking a 6th or 7th rounder in supp. draft?

Mattyk72, do you really want to have a debate on how good or bad our front office is? Vinny and Danny Boy have given us: Deion Sanders, Jeff George, Bruce Smith, Dan Wilkenson, Dana Stubblefield, Mark Brunnell, and we waste draft picks like candy, heck we threw in draft picks with both the Portis and the Brunnell deals! Now they have had a few decent signings the last year or so, but by and large our front office makes one screw up after another. How can you say a 7th rounder is high risk, that make absolutely no sense to me since we have never had a 7th round selection pan out and be a real contributor anyway, and this kid has real potential.

We've had our share of quality moves as well, but I guess it's easier to focus on the negative. As for the bad moves sure we've had our share, what team doesn't?

I never said a 7th rounder is high risk. Frankly I wouldn't have cared if they gave up a 7th rounder for him, but to criticize them for passing on him is silly. Criticize them for the Brunell move or giving up too much for Portis, but blasting them for passing on a WR in the supplemental draft is ridiculous.

If this kid has some much potential why weren't teams falling over themselves to grab him?

Nobody in the entire league was willing to give up even a 7th rounder for him, and only 4 teams showed interest after the supplemental draft was over.

Maybe everyone is missing the boat on this kid, maybe he's the next TO, somehow I doubt it though. He's definitely a project and no quick fix to our WR corps.

Kinda funny you say we waste draft picks, but then you want them to throw a pick on a kid who hasn't played football in 3 years.

The supplimental draft is typically filled with fool's gold. Of course Manuel Wright and Crosby looked good - there was no one to compare them to. Crosby ran two sub 4.5 40's, and while that's nice, he suffered fatigue related leg cramps during his workout for the pros, and couldn't finish. He was going to play pro baseball, but (to quote SI.com), "injuries, indecision and personal issues took their toll on Crosby." Oh, yeah - I want that guy on my team.

Crosby may turn out to be a real player. I doubt it, but it may happen. The same may go for Wright - he couldn't crack the starting lineup (or his books, apparently) at USC, but maybe the NFL is more his speed. There's a reason there aren't many supplimental draft success stories, though.

Which is a great fit for him. He's under no pressure to produce, and he might learn from the great pros ahead of him.

Is there any doubt that even if we wasted a 7th rounder on Crosby he wouldn't have made the team? We can't carry all the guys we already have on the roster at WR. What the heck are we going to do with another one? As it stands now we may have to cut either Dyson or McCants; and I can't help but doubt that Crosby would be any better than those two guys.
