I think that Big Ben is due for a sophomore slump. Just as was mentioned before, don't hold out for a 15-1 season again, but the Steelers will definitely be atop their division. I don't have anything really to base my criticism of Ben on, I just never really saw him make any super impressive throws. The Steelers were a golden example of how the run sets up the pass.

As far as the Skins are concerned, I'm cautiously optimistic for a 10-6 season. I'd be happy with a 9-7 season. SOOO many questions at QB. If you want to know all about those, just read some Ramsey vs. Brunell vs. Campbell threads. A lot of the talk is crazy but the bottom line is at he's probably on a short leash and a true QB controversy could develop if he doesn't play well within the first 3-4 games.

And welcome... :)

Yeah, that's been kicked around like a dead horse about a sophmore slump on all the Pitt sites. He's proving otherwise in camp BIG TIME. btw, did you happen to the this year's EA Quarterback Challenge....OMG, wasn't Ben amazing?? To further add, he had mentioned prior to the end of last season that he physically hit a wall because he was in shape for a 12 college season and not a grueling 16 (his case 15) NFL season, excluding playoffs.

Well, he vowed that he'd be in much better shape and knowing the playbook inside and out going into camp (the OC promised that the playbook would be fully opened up for this year as opposed to last). Back during mini-camp, he more than proved all of the above by reporting in at 8 pounds heavier (at 6'5" and now 248lb) all in muscle mass and ran a 40yrd time quicker than the tight ends....HELLO! Quicky, even though his short time in the game of the first two thus far (note: it rained like a bitch in Pitt last weekend so it was not a day for any quarterback), he has been dropping jaws in camp and getting praise from all the coaches. One, we now have Ward suited up and we now have a new weapon in Heath Miller and Parker from the backfield, whom I understand has hands like Staley.

Well, this is why I don't frequent other sites fan boards, cause I'm incredibly misinformed. :)
Something is just telling me otherwise...

Welcome to the board scrap!

I have a couple of questions for you. Who has emerged as the no. 2 receiver, replacing Plaxico?

Also, I think Cowher is an excellent coach. One of pro sports' better coaches. Yet his teams have fallen short on many occassions. Granted, there were times like last year when I'm sure no one outside of Pittsburgh thought they would even get as far as they did.

So anyway, what I'm wondering is, as great a coach and as revered as he is, is there ever any talk of "is this as far as Cowher can get us?" And if so, what are the odds my main man Russ Grimm would take over?

2nd receiver would now seem to be Wilson.

"there ever any talk of "is this as far as Cowher can get us?".....MUCHO! As for Grimm, slim to none even though he's awesome coach and was an awesome lineman in his day.....man, those days with the hogs....hmm, hmm, hmm, my man, Joe Jacoby (sp) (f'n monster)!

Just curious, who replaced Vincent on the O-line?

Do you mean Vincent the starter subbing for Kendal Simmons, or Vincent the backup?

I am guessing that the Kemo guy or even Trai Essex are fighting it out as the backup role is up for grabs.

Wilson, the former 49er? How do you feel about him?

What about Ken Wisenhunt (sp?)?

Wison has been looking great, from what I hear. Pitt and you guys are on here in NJ on Fox so I'll get my first look.

It's actually Whisenhunt, and I have a few things to say about this man.

When he took over the helm two years ago after his stint as the QB coach, I was like who and what hell is THIS guy?!?

Turns out:

1) He was a pretty good college QB

2) His actual IQ is supposedly is that of a genius

3) His ex-college football coach said that 'he's too smart to be a quarterback because he over thinks everything'

4) Learned that you DO NOT CHALLENGE THIS MAN IN A GAME OF CHESS....I loved reading that because aren't coaches in essence chess players with the players being human beings in football?

See I thought he played TE in college, I know he played a few games at TE with the Redskins.

Bingo!

Thanks for the correction. I did not remember that correctly. YES, he was the TE coach and played TE.

The stuff about his IQ and stuff is definitely what stands out with what I read about him.

on friday you may see a struggling offense and a weaker CB situation right now (due to minor injuries)... we're better across the board on O from what i've seen so far, hopefully we get from where we are to (at least) average by the time the season starts. our 2nd string D in't as great as i'd like it to be, but our 2nd string oline and down to our 4th string rb seem to be good, qb depth is solid now, but no one's blown us away... ramsey has the arm, but throws some gift ints (bad decisions), brunell looks healthy now and like a real QB, but hasn't played a 1st string D as of yet.

special teams is GOOD so far... massive LB and safety depth for teams, we've already got a blocked FG and above average returns, good coverage etc. last year we didn't have good personel an let people break big returns, were average on returns, fair caught too much (chad morton :P) etc.
