Gibbs said he didn't want to walk away from that 4th and 1 without the lead and I agree. Kicking the FG isn't the sexy decision but in the end it was the right call.
Yes the redzone offense needs to improve, but we are at least moving the ball which is something we couldn't say last year.
We also had 3 plays over 20 yards, that's just off the top of my head, the Portis 41 yard run, Moss's 52 yard catch and run, and Cooley's 23 yard grab. Could be more I'm forgetting.
We had two really good shots at TDs that went awry. Cooley got called for the PI, that was a call that could have gone either way, he got locked up with the defender, could have easily been called the other way. Later on Cooley makes the catch to set up the 4th and 1, if he pushes his route just a little deeper that's 6.
We could be talking about a 17-0 win today if those two situations worked out.
Unfortunately they didn't. We need improvement no doubt and a serious reduction of turnovers. Regardless, I'm still encouraged by the offense moving the ball and making big plays. We also saw multiple WR sets and a running game better suited for Portis. The improvements are there, now we just need the execution.
skinnyfan 09-12-2005, 11:35 AM uh, you said we couldn't hang with them, i answer by saying "well, judging by last year we can" and then you bring up some BS about living in the past?
Either you're not paying attention or you're being an a-hole.
Not sure I care what you are saying? We suck....bottom line. And you keep coming up with excuses as to why we are going to be good and keep getting disappointed......don't call me an a hole again.
hail_2_da_skins 09-12-2005, 12:02 PM What happened to the head-hunting rule or the horse-collar rule in the NFL. Where were the officials when Ramsey got clocked. That was the most fragrant hit I've seen in years. That just supports my theory that the Skins do not get the calls. Ramsey was off to a decent start before he got his bell rung. Also, the offensive pass interference call on the touchdown that was called back was bogus.
diehardskin2982 09-12-2005, 12:11 PM Because this is the NFL not Madden. Why kick a FG... just to rub it in?
As for running the ball with 2 min left, you do that to make the Bears burn their timeouts.
I think they only had like 1 td left and I disagree with that play call, that would have been the perfect oportunity for a playaction that stretched the field and got the 1st
mooby 09-12-2005, 12:13 PM on that fourth and 1 on the goalline i believe we should've gone for it. as for cooley's pi call, i think that was the right choice. either way, we won.

Gentlemen, please keep it civil.
If you're going to make statements like 'We suck' at least post proof or substantiate to some degree. 'We suck' brings nothing to the forum.
Thank you for your kind attention in this matter.
scowan 09-12-2005, 12:46 PM Any of you guys notice that after A. Brown fumbled that Ladell Betts returned the next Kick Off. I would Let Ladell return them from now on. A. Brown even scares me on Punt Returns, because he doesn't call Fair Catch when guys are all over him. That is really scary! He may have speed, but he can't break a tackle at all. The first guy that makes the least bit of contact on him, knocks him down. I want Ramsey against the Cowboys like the rest of you guys posting on this thread, but Gibbs may go with Brunell and try to win ugly again next week. One more thing, WE NEED TURNOVERS!!! Especially against Dallas if we hope to win on the road. Our beloved Skins are not good enough to beat Dallas if we don't win the turnover ratio next Monday.
RedskinRat 09-12-2005, 01:09 PM I think that Brown had enough of a learning experience to stay with him for a while. He's a great return man, like Hall in KC. Just you watch.

I think return men have to have a mentality similar to cornerbacks. They have to be able to forget everything that has happened on bad plays and focus on the next play. Just like a cornerback, if a return man's confidence is shaken, he's going to fall apart quickly. You see it at least once a year in the NFL - a formerly solid return man fumbles a kickoff or punt, and suddenly he has hands like feet for the rest of the game.
The coaches will have to determine Brown's confidence level and make a decision based on that.
JWsleep 09-12-2005, 01:53 PM If A Brown puts the ball on the ground again, he's toast. That's 2 in close games (Dallas and Chicago)--it cannot happen.
Here's a dissapoiting thing about yesterday--and I know this is pissing off Gibbs big time. We tried over the offseason to fix (among other things) 3 glaring problems--TOs, stupid penalties, and special teams. Yesterday, we lost the TO battle, had a TD taken away on a penalty, and had a special teams fumble and a 2 pnealties that completly altered the field position situation. When you stress things, you'd like to see improvment! Gibbs said something in his press conference like, "we're going to consider some different ways to get these points across." Hope they figure it out, because this is the difference (along with the redzone stuff). Still, these are fixable things in our own hands, so there's hope yet.
