scowan 10-20-2005, 02:49 PM I guess the thing I question is that there are so many places (stores and online) where you can buy a RED Away Redskins jersey, but you will never see the team wear it? Or at least not that often. I can't believe that Mr. Snyder, the opportunist that he is, would not shake that up a bit to earn an extra buck. Maybe jersey sales for the Skins are in good shape. I like what the Bills did the first of the season and the Chargers with their throwback uni's for select games. It also seems like the NFL has made a point of teams playing on Thanksgiving recently wearing throwbacks.
Beemnseven 10-20-2005, 02:56 PM The only opportunity to see the Redskins in their burgundy jerseys this season could be the away games at Arizona, Tampa Bay, and Philly. But that all depends on whether they choose to wear whites at home.
The weather does have a lot to do with it. For the opening game in Jacksonville, Jack Del Rio had his Jaguars to wear white to reflect the heat. The same is basically true for many warm-weather climate teams. Miami, San Diego, Arizona, and Tampa Bay all usually wear whites at home when it's oppressively hot.
Against the Chargers a couple of weeks ago, the Patriots wore their white jerseys at home -- the first time I've ever seen that. Other teams that sometimes do it are Philly, Carolina, and Tennessee. To my knowledge though, St. Louis always wears their dark jerseys at home.
I'm with you, scowan. I'd also like to see burgundy jerseys at home -- but change to white jerseys and burgundy pants only for the home game against Dallas. If I ran the team, the white jerseys/white pants combination would be the permanent away jersey. As far as alternate or throwback uniforms go, I'd rather not see the Skins do that. I wasn't crazy about the 70th Aniversery uniforms with the spear logo anyway. I loved it during Schottenheimer's short time here because in that season, the Skins wore burgundy jerseys 10 times, (eight home games, and against the Chargers and Cowboys) with only 6 games in white. That was a nice change-up.
memphisskin 10-20-2005, 02:58 PM I think the white jersey/white pants look should make an appearance one weekend, seeing as how we've been wearing the same look since '79 that was a refreshing change.
The 70th anniversary unis were tight, but since they were tied to the 70th anniversary of the team they immediately became dated. Probably Snyder's biggest mistake, he'd have been better off making those unis alternate jerseys and thus he'd have gotten more than one season out of them.
I'm almost curious about seeing the red jerseys with the red pants, on second thought lets stick with what we've got. I like Atlanta on Madden, but 13 jersey choices is a bit much.
BigSKINBauer 10-20-2005, 03:06 PM hasn't tampa been wearing their whites at home, maybe when we play them they might pull them out but that was probally b/c it was hot before, by everything should cool down....well every thing but SANTANA MOSS!!!!!
Summo 10-20-2005, 03:43 PM I contacted the NFL about this subject a couple of years ago. They told me that the teams must submit a list of what color jerseys they will be wearing each game at home before the season starts. If you remember last season Denver was fined for “Forgetting” to pack their dark jersey's for a road game at San Diego. San Diego wanted to wear their white at home because of the heat. They also told me that the teams were only allowed to wear their 3rd jerseys at home and not on the road. That rule must have been changed this season as we have seen Carolina wear their blue jersey’s on the road a couple of times this season so far. Also there are no rules as to what color pants they wear, that’s why you see the teams alternate between colored and white ones.
Beemnseven 10-20-2005, 04:05 PM Why couldn't teams like the Cowboys and Redskins wear their dark colors against each other? Now, it obviously wouldn't work with the Cardinals and Skins, or the Giants and Cowboys, but it'd be cool every now and then to see that.

Beemnsteven, probably the only thing I liked out of the Steve Spurrier era of the Skins was the White on White away jerseys. I would just like to see a change every now and then. Unfortunately with Gibbs calling the shots, we will probably never see it. Spurrier did not care about little things like that, but I get the feeling that EVERYTHING with Gibbs is done with a purpose in mind including jerseys. Does anyone know of a way we could get a message to him that we would like to see a change? Or at least find out what the players think. For all I know they may love the look they wear now and hate the Red tops, and White bottoms look.
dblanch66 10-21-2005, 01:07 AM I like the white jersey and burgundy pants. It's old school 80's style Gibbs. I just wish we'd go back to the curled feather on the helmet. That was cool.

I absolutely agree.

I read once, and it may have been here at The Warpath, that Gibbs preferred the white jerseys because his quarterbacks could apparently spot them better in the shadows that sometimes fell on parts of the field at RFK stadium. That doesn't mean he couldn't use the white pants at home though.
Does anyone know of a way we could get a message to him that we would like to see a change?
On Sportstalk 980, every Monday night at 6pm eastern, you can hear the Joe Gibbs show with Bram Weinstein. They take call-ins, but I bet it's pretty hard to get through. That would be the only way I know of to talk to Gibbs personally and ask him.
