BigSKINBauer 10-26-2005, 01:54 PM hold on. I usually get worked up but really this just means we fall somewhere from 12-26, we could be number 13 so i don't see why this is crazy. There are 6 NFC teams above us and i do think we come in next but are we a garanteed playoff team with the way the east and 3/4 of the south is playing?? Definatly no so if we might not be in the playoffs we shouldn't expect to be in with the top 12 of the league. We have to beat the midgets, e-girls, and bucs these next few weeks to get respect.
We are 4-2, if we win our next 2 games we are on top of the division no matter what else happens. It will be tough and unprobable but we can do it. we have only beaten 1 team that this ranking deemed top 12 but in the next 3 weeks we play 3 more, lets beat them and get our deserved respect
Actually since KC is "rising" that would put them at #13, leaving the Skins #14 at best, which is really underrating them.
expatriated_in_PHX 10-26-2005, 02:20 PM This is exactly the problem the Skins have right now. So many of these "experts" just don't have the time to watch every play and know every detail about a team. Their rankings are part fact, part emotion and part bias from previous seasons. This will chnage if we can our next two. These are two of the biggest games we've had in years coming up boys. Make or break type games.
Absolutely! The next two games will be tellers. Running up nearly 500 yards against the worst team in football will help you out in the statistics and rankings based upon those statistics. If the Skins can handle the Giants and the Eagles, which I am confident that they can, we will have serious fodder for ranking the skins very highly. But knowing most of these commentators they will say that the Giants or Eagles weren't as good as they thought. If you recall the Skins were downplayed the same way in 91. Everyone made excuses for their undefeated season until they were, oh, 10-0, I seem to remember. Not very many of them gave the Skins good props then and they won't now. Not until they consistently beat teams and force the analysts with their record against good teams. <sarcasm>but their support of the eagles is justified. I mean they have TO. They must be good. And the Giants have the budding demi-god Eli. he's the brother of Peyton for goodness sake! </sarcasm>
memphisskin 10-26-2005, 02:21 PM I read this article this morning and I just thought it confirmed the media bias against the Skins. We've got to go out and beat the crap out of the 49ers before anyone starts giving us any credit, all the talk about the Cowboys-Seattle game being for supremacy in the NFC doesn't take into account that we beat both of those teams! I think most of these guys wrote the Skins, Brunell and Gibbs off at the beginning of the year and are afraid to change course now.
In the end, it doesn't matter. I would like to see Santana Moss get more pub, I'd like to see Brunell get the respect that Bledsoe was getting in Dallas, and I'd like to see all those who said the game has passed Gibbs by come out and make a full retraction. But none of those things help you win football games and at the end of the day I know that we're a better football team than the so-called analysts give us credit for. As long as we keep winning games I don't care if they "rank" us 32nd. I don't want us to be paper champs and I'd rather us get slighted than to lose any of the edge and focus that has brought us this far. Not that Gibbs will allow anyone to become complacent, but I just really how we're playing right now especially considering we've still got room for improvement (red zone scoring, David Patten, and getting Portis free for those big runs we know he is capable of).
NFLeurope 10-26-2005, 04:06 PM Hey guys im making what i think is my first comment on the board. Lol...kinda funny since i've been coming to this site all the time to get news on the redskins since like the middle of last season. So anyhow...im studying abroad in France for the semester (hence my member name) and since i can't watch the games here...i actually went out and bought a computer tv card before leaving and gave it to my friend to use. Now every sunday he tapes the game onto his hard drive and sends it to me over the net. I like bite my nails all of sunday knowing the redskins are playing...and often times i dont get to watch the games til like tues. which is a torture... But enough about me...
With regard to this thread im a little curious as to why people get so worked up about the media not giving us our due...?? I mean what have we really earned? We are playing well right now (very well may i add) but I mean lets be honest...plenty of teams go out and have a great start to the season (ie. minnesota and the giants last year) and then kinda collapse around this time of year. And from a media standpoint i do think its a little premature to start comparing us to the likes of new england and the eagles... I mean i personally think we can beat them...and i will be rooting like hell for us to win this weekend against NY...but teams like New England and the Eagles have been dominant for soooo long that they have earned the respect from the media.
The redskins on the other hand have been bad for so long that they still need to earn that respect. We won some close games and lost some close games this year...but i have a feeling its really starting to come together on both sides of the ball...and while i dont really care all that much what sports writers write in their weekly power rankings (since they are pretty much just for shits anyway and dont mean anything) i do think that if this week...we can go out and get a tough win on the road...that we will see the redskins jump in the bogus power rankings... My two cents anyway...
TheMalcolmConnection 10-26-2005, 04:14 PM Come on man, it gives us something to talk about. :)
It doesn't bother us (well, at least me) that much. I just like to bitch and moan when there's nothing else to bitch and moan about.
And that SIR, is a good thing. Last year we could bitch and moan about protection, vanilla offense, the game passing Gibbs by, "Drop-It-Like-It's-Hot", and basically anything game related. At least this year we can bitch about us being good and other people not realizing it.
You can bet that we're all basking in the glow that is 4-2 right now.
scowan 10-26-2005, 04:15 PM Winning on the road is where it is at. The Skins have only won one game on the road this year and that was a miracle (Dallas). The media will turn their heads around and report favorable things about the Skins when they win those tough games on the road. Like this week. A win against the Giants will turn some heads, I feel very confident about that. It is really that simple. Win at home (8 wins) and half of your road games (the Skins are 1-2 right now) and you go 12-4. That will take you anywhere, but it is very hard to do. Good quality teams win on the road. Oh, and win in the division. A big test this week which will earn respect if the Skins win.
expatriated_in_PHX 10-26-2005, 06:32 PM Amen and yes. But I still stand by what I said earlier. I have developed the opinion over the years that there is an anti-redskin bias for a lot of commentators.

I couldn't agree more. Hopefully the Skins will continue to allow us to bitch and moan about respect in the media, uniform colors and anything else not related to things on the field.
However, the lack of respect is probably why we only had one guy make the Pro Bowl last season even though we had the number 3 defense. Respect given is why the Eagles had three guys from their secondary make the Pro Bowl, so it does matter some.
That Guy 10-27-2005, 05:21 PM welcome to the board!
