I definitely almost got chub after our line and Portis basically was like, "Bitch, please!" to the Cardinals defensive line on that last push. Amazing.

This was all done against the Cards (maybe they worst organization & team in NFL history) so any notion that this was some amazing all-pro performance are kidding themselves. It was a good performance against a sorry team, nothing more, nothing less. Based on how the Skins played these last 2 weeks vs 2 of the worst teams in the league I see no reason to believe they can win vs Dallas and NY. They just dont score enough points.

If Portis can get in the end zone a couple more times, I think he can make the Pro Bowl.

He's certainly the MVP of the season so far.

Gibbs has shown faith in Portis and Portis has come through. I lot of credit has to go to the Hogs up front. They are doing a great job blowing open holes for the running backs. Nothing would be sweeter than seeing it all come together next week against the Girls. A flawless game with no turnovers, the offensive line dominating and Portis and company trucking the Girls, Santana Moss toasting Roy Williams, Arrington and Taylor 1-2ing Bledsoe. I would be in Hog Heaven.

if so, then the problem is alot bigger than Portis.

the point is, for the Redskins good or bad, Clinton Portis has been a bright spot for this offense. we don't lose games because of him, but he helps win the games we do win. maybe he's not the Barry Sanders people here expected him to be (The Lions lost most of their games in spite of Barry too) but he's unquestionably one of the positives on this team. hardly a negative.

I agree that CP has been a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster offense. He wont lose games for the skins but he wont make those 2 amazing TD runs that win games either. He's a good back in a bad offense but not the homerun hitter the team thought they were getting.

I would really love to see more running plays down the sidelines with Sellers leading MORE often. Or even up the middle with Sellers poundin in front of Portis. This really needs to be in more of our running plays.

you said it. Portis does his best with a fullback blocking for him (like his days in Denver) because he reacts so well after that initial block. Portis has vision and ability, not size (though no one can question his toughness). take a look at the offensive clip and you'll see all his best runs have Sellers clearing the way.

Irish, I agree totally. Rams and Cards are the worst defenses in the league. I will believe we are this new team committed to running the ball "skins style" when we do it against teams that have something to play for. Like Dallas, NY, and even Philly, though philly is playing for nothing, they have alot of heart and dont quit, like the rams and cards. I do think there will be more plays of CP geared to running outside, but you cant run outside if you dont make teams respect your inside running game. Like the play action pass, teams have to respect different parts of you offensive attack for other parts to work. I read that Portis actually likes running inside alot. With that said, he needs to do better at letting holes develop rather than running over top of the blockers. By the way, were was Rock yesterday? Betts is healthy so Rock is relegated back to #3. The guy ran like a mad man last week and we cant atleast give him a few touches? HMMMM... thats questionable. I was looking forward to seeing him run again.

that's fair to say. guess we'll know exactly that soon enough.
