| Outrageous School Policy ![]() Miss. school reverses race-based rules for student elections - U.S. news - Life - Race & ethnicity - msnbc.com This policy has supposedly been overturned but this mom's statement sums up my feelings: “I have always taught my children not to see race,” Springer told Richardson. “This is so disgusting to me.” |

| Re: Outrageous School Policy Wow... stories like this just dump a cold bucket of reality on your perception of where we're at as a nation. I can understand the individual racist. Stupid people exist in this world. But an entire community that actually believes this is "okay"? Wow!

| Re: Outrageous School Policy  sorry, but apportioning positions based initially on race seems pretty much to be by definition racism, and something that has no excuse or validity in this country today. If it is stupidity then it is stupidity by choice and still not excusable or acceptable by any standard of this country. |

| Re: Outrageous School Policy Based on the first article it seems like an an honest case of dumbness. Basically a vestige of the past. Coming from what was obviously a very caustic racist area the policy was developed in good faith and became the way of life. It sounds like administrators both black and white didn't much care about the policy since it apparently was a rotating deal. Only when someone (rightfully) said that it was stupid considering the strides that have been made did they change. I just don't see it being racist as much as lazy dubmness. Fortunately it was changed. Unfortunately no one stood up and made a stink about it 25 years ago when the policy should have been disgarded for lack of need. |

| Re: Outrageous School Policy UHM those prescedents were set into place to promote diversity in the school government over 30 years ago. What is getting overlooked is the original intent of the rule to allow a multitude of races to run for office. Is it scary that a 30 year old rule is still in place...maybe? Should that rule have been looked at a couple of decades ago? Sure, but this is nothing more than a case of oversight. There are many Laws in our country that don't make any freakin sense. To expect a public school system to be immune from this type of oversight is just simply unrealistic.
