| Re: Tripoli About to be Taken Over by Rebels Yeah, but to who's benefit is Qaddafi's overthrow? The whole thing was orchestrated because Qaddafi was going to nationalize the oil completely. He gave the Libyan people a pretty good deal. A newly married couple got free housing, real cheap food prices, gas prices were ridiculously low. Free college and a car to go with it. I know the guy was a sponsor of terrorism in the 80's, but he pretty much did a 180 from that. Helped the CIA against Al Qaeda, etc. To me we have 3 possible outcomes: an Islamist state, a true pro Western democracy, or just another puppet regime of the West. In two of the 3 cases it will be bad for us. We do not need another Islamist regime so close to Europe, and if we set up a puppet regime, that will take away the freebies, you will eventually get another anti West regime change later on down the road. I can hear those crazy fools yelling "Great Satan" a few years down the road. We really should have let the Europeans handle this, and if they couldn't let them fall. NATO is of no use to the United States anymore, and is a big economic liability. |
