Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Media?

There's no such thing as an unbiased media today. Maybe there never was.

Sometimes one "side" is right, sometimes another. But if you think one outlet is more consistently unbiased than another, they probably just agree with you more often.

And media sources are more biased by what they *don't* report, rather than what they do.

Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Media?

My current favorite news sources.

BBC News - US & Canada

News: U.S. and World News Headlines : NPR

The New York Times - Breaking News, World News & Multimedia

Business News & Financial News - The Wall Street Journal - Wsj.com

The first two are the best in my opinion of the four, but there are good articles in the last two as well. You aren't going to get the slanted 1/2 truth that you'll find in the major media markets.

Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Media?

Yahoo is pretty legit when it comes to news, but I found this hilarious. SOmehow this got through the cracks and was posted on their main site.

AT&T just pulled a dick move with FaceTime over cellular - Yahoo! News

Quote:
Itís no secret that AT&T (T) is a terrible wireless carrier ó just ask anyone who uses, or has used AT&T. Its calls drop, data is unusable in any location with more than four wireless subscribers within a square mile, and it nickel and dimes every single ****ing thing. You know what set me off though? The fact that AT&T is limiting FaceTime over cellular and making subscribers switch to a new shared data plan if they want to use it. It was bad enough AT&T brazenly charges you a fee if you want to use the data you pay for on another device via tethering, but now AT&T is trying to control just what you can and canít do with your own data, which you pay for every month, down to the specific application.

Hereís AT&Tís full statement:

AT&T will offer FaceTime over Cellular as an added benefit of our new Mobile Share data plans, which were created to meet customersí growing data needs at a great value. With Mobile Share, the more data you use, the more you save. FaceTime will continue to be available over Wi-Fi for all our customers.

Letís look at this another wayÖ you lease or buy a car. Could you imagine the leasing company or bank saying that you canít park your car in certain locations, canít listen to certain radio stations, and canít drive it faster than 50 MPH unless you pay more? Thatís what AT&T is doing ó it is telling you exactly what you can and canít do with your data that you pay for every month down to the specific applications and uses. Iím tired of this shit. Itís not even about the cost or new plan so much as itís about two things:

The fact that AT&Tís competitors are not charging for FaceTime over cellular speaks loudly. Sprint (S) announced that it wonít charge for FaceTime over cellular, and while Verizon Wireless (VZ) hasnít announced anything, they have no current plans to limit FaceTime on existing or new plans, weíve been told from a source.
It means that the majority of AT&Tís iPhone users wonít have access to FaceTime ó the most reliable system-integrated video calling service on mobile devices ó on AT&Tís network because they wonít want to switch to pricier mobile share plans.

FaceTime over cellular should have happened long ago, but now that Apple is finally introducing it, AT&T goes and ****s it up for everyone ó just like it messed up tethering, and just like it screwed people over on SMS plans. Well guess what? I cannot wait to buy a next-generation iPhone on Verizon with LTE and tell AT&T to go screw themselves after being enslaved to them, and spending way over $50,000 with them in service fees since I originally signed up. Peace.

Never seen a news article in my life like this.

Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Media?

Media in the US is just propaganda anymore. It is to keep the sheep in line either giving them bold faced lies about the so called economic recovery, to their blatant hypocrisy on things like Libya and Syria. Pravda and the like have nothing on our guys. Goebbels would be impressed, if not jealous over the propaganda apparatus that fronts as being independent and honest.

NBC (owned by GE), ABC (Disney), CBS, coverage of Romney 47% video vs. Obama Redistribution comments. And this is our "unbiased" media? lol.

Study: Networks seized on Romney's hidden-camera remark, downplayed Obama's | Fox News

Slingin Sammy -- if you don't see a difference between those two issues and why one is more news worthy than another I feel bad for you.

1) Chronology: Something Obama said in 1998 (14 years ago) versus something Romney said on the campaign trail.
2) Content: Obama talked about pooling resources and redistributing them in moderation within the government to increase effectiveness. Romney said that 47% of the people he didn't have a chance to get their vote (fair comment) but then goes on to call them all deadbeats who rely on government is absolutely wrong.

When it comes down to it. One guy was insulting almost half of the American public while the other said he's fine with redistributing government funds to make the government MORE EFFICIENT. What exactly is your gripe here? The fact that the media are picking up on the far more interesting, timely, and relevant story? Please.

It's not as if the Obama tape didn't get any national coverage. We all read or saw about it already. Everyone here knows about the tape-- so it was obviously discussed at some point.

If you don't see that the media coverage of both campaigns' "tapegate" was baised against Romney, I feel bad for you and our country.

Romney was at a fundraiser with GOP heavy hitters and was using the percentage of people in the US who don't pay Fed income tax. Was his statement fundamentally wrong for not taking into account folks on SS, Medicare, etc., yes. Was his point correct, that those who are receiving gov't aid without paying into the system unlikely to vote for someone who wants to scale back entitlements, yes.

Here are Obama's exact words:
"I think the trick is figuring out how do we structure government systems that pool resources and hence facilitate some redistribution because I actually believe in redistribution, at least at a certain level to make sure that everybody's got a shot. How do we pool resources at the same time as we decentralize delivery systems in ways that both foster competition, can work in the marketplace, and can foster innovation at the local level and can be tailored to particular communities."

There is no question Obama is speaking about redistribution of tax dollars from certain segments of the population to other segments in this quote, not making gov't more efficient. It appears you've bought the NBC, ABC, CBS (read media arms of the DNC) spin. If you think Obama's core principles have changed since he made this quote, you are dead-wrong.
