Gun Control Thread- Should we?

I'd like to be clear here:

I have long been somewhat opposed to greater gun control because many of the same reasons that have been stated.

But upon closer examination of gun ownership statistics and some quality time spent reasoning I am finding it harder and harder to rectify the fact the we as a nation have more guns than everyone else in the whole world combined yet we still have vast amount of crime often disproportional to other countries. The argument that guns stop crime is on pretty shaky ground and I have yet to see anyone that can show why we have all these guns yet crime isn't much better. I'd love to understand why.

Well a good example is that a kid can steal several cars and never serve a day in jail. I had a car stolen by a kid who had also stolen 3 prior cars. Never served anytime for any of those crimes. The only reason he served anytime for stealing my car is because he had turned 18. My guess is if that happened in any outher country he would have been in jail.

Try reading this book, your local library has it.

Twelve years of additional experience and mountains of data confirm the empirical truth – more guns in the hands of law-abiding citizens mean less crime.

We have taken god out of school, told kids they have all the rights, breakdown of the American family, kids with no dads, teachers can't touch kids, etc, ect..... but thats just a bunch of right wing nuts.

Agreed. If not a gun, then a baseball bat, a knife, a spoon.....

I am the first to admit that a high capacity magazine on a semi-automatic rifle gets the job done more efficiently.

These are children getting killed with military style weapon. These are not weapons of defense, these are weapons of offense whose purpose is to kill many and quickly. Killing has become a sport in this country. It is now a game where the next mass murderer tries to up the guy before him.


I can't get the image of young children in a corner, frozen, in-capable of understanding the situation getting rapidly peppered with 3 to 11 bullets. The look in their eyes, their little frail bodies reverberating.

Yep that's what I think, it's like a real life COD now, everyone using assault rifles, tear gas etc. It's a damn shame that anyone can get these weapons that easy IMO.

Which mass murder stated that? How do you know that?

Please explain what that style is.

Purpose to kill?
How about a cowboy style .45 cal trick shooter?
The hole it can blow in a torso is less offensive to you maybe?

These guns have been around for a long time but these mass killings are something fairly new. Something other then the access to guns has changed and that's what needs to be fixed. I'm fine banning this type of gun but if someone else wants to do this again they will just find a different means.
