Re: Warpath Keeper League: Starting up soon?

I was looking for the thread in which this one was started but can't find it. We had one and 8588 had made the list of unkeepable players.

Re: Warpath Keeper League: Starting up soon?

Other rules that i was unsure of:

1. We are keeping 3?

2. If you keep a player, you lose the pick in round in which he was chosen.

3. How does No.2 affect a keeper who was picked up as a free agent?

4. Will the ineligible and kept players be removed from the draft or do we need to know them going in?

5. When do we need to provide our list of kept players?

from what I've talked with a friend who has done these before:

1.) yep

2.) no

3.) no impact

4.) the kept players will be removed and the previously ineligible players are added back into the pot and can be drafted whenever

5.) I personally think it'd be helpful to 8588 if we have them decided by this weekend so he can have those players taken care of as quickly as possible. (mine are once again Cooley, Travis Henry, and Baltimore)

that's just going off of what my friend told me about keeper league's in general, but it's it's 8588's league. another problem it looks like we are going to encounter is we are missing 3 teams from what was already previously an undersized league.

Re: Warpath Keeper League: Starting up soon?

Ok here are some Rules.

Roster size : 14 players. No injured reserved. There are no roster restrictions except that you must draft enough players at each position to field a starting lineup on opening day. With a roster size of 14, it is expected that 1 or 2 young players will be included on each team's roster during the season to develop into keepers.

Each team can keep from 0 to 3 players.

Any players drafted in rounds 1 - 3 of the previous year cannot be keepers.

Players can be kept a maximum of 3 times. For example, you can draft a player in 2001, and then keep them for the next 3 years: 2002, 2003, 2004. In 2005, this player must go back into the draft pool of players.

For each player you keep, you must give up a draft pick 1 round higher than the player's draft position the year before.
If you keep an undrafted players (UDP) from the previous year, you must give up your 12th round pick. Players that were drafted and then cut still maintain their draft status.

Example 1 : You draft Vince Young QB Titans in round 9 in 2006. He becomes the starter and you decide he's one of your keepers. In 2007, you must give up your 8th round draft pick (he becomes effectively your 8th round pick) to keep him. In 2008, he becomes your 7th round choice, and if you keep him for a third year, you must give up your 6th round pick in 2009.

Example 2 : You draft S. Moss, WR Redskins in round 4 in 2006. You decide to keep him. In 2007, he becomes your 3rd round draft pick (you give up a 3rd rounder). In 2008, because his draft status was round 3 in the previous year, he is no longer eligible for keeper status and is returned to the draft pool.

If you do not have a draft pick for the correct round to give up to keep a player, you must give up the next higher draft pick. This can happened if you trade away a draft pick during the season or have 2 keepers that have the same draft status from the previous year.

Example 1 : You decide to keep your draft pick in round 13 from the previous year and you also want to keep an UnDrafted Player (UDP). Both require that you give up your 12th round draft pick. Since you only have one 12th round selection, to keep both players, you must give up picks for rounds 10 and 11.

Example 2 : You want to keep a player you drafted in the 5th round last year. You also traded away your 4th round pick during the season. To keep last year's 5th round pick, you must give up your 4th round pick this year. Since you have no 4th round selection, to keep this player, you must give up your 3rd pick.

When the draft is complete, the draft position the player ends up at will determine next year's draft position status.

For Example : You have 2 undrafted players (UDPs) you want to keep. Based on the rule above, you will have to give up a 12th and an 11th round pick to keep each. If the draft completes with your 2nd keeper being your 11th round draft pick, and you decide to keep that same player next year, you will have to give up a 10th round pick to keep that player the following year.

Keeper Status follows the traded player.
When trading players, the players draft status (position) and keeper status (years he can be kept) is traded with the player.
Example :In 2006, you drafted SEA QB M. Hasselbeck in the 5th round. His keeper status is as follows :

Year Draft Position Keeper Status
---- --------------- ------------------------
2006 5th round pick - Initial year drafted.
2007 4th round pick - 1st keeper year.
2008 3rd round pick - 2nd keeper year.
2009 Cannot be kept, picks in round 1-3 are always returned.

Since his draft and keeper status follows him to whatever team he is traded to, he can only be kept for the 2007 and the 2008 season. 2009, he must go back into the draft because his draft position, which rises 1 round each year got too high. If this team could have drafted him in the 7th round, Hasselbeck could have been kept the full max of 3 years.

Re: Warpath Keeper League: Starting up soon?

Also, we need atleast 3 more teams from last year for this to really work. If anyone has any questions or comments please, let's hear them. Even though I am the commish in for this league, I want it to be a league that the managers have a say in how to make it better...

8588 - Should we just PM you with our list of keepers?

Also, will the draft automatically remove kept players and delete you from the draft round for which you are not eligible or will all that have to be done manually at the draft?

BTW - Thanks for doing all the work on this.

yeah, I guess it would be best if i had a list of the keepers for draft night. As i get the list from each of you i will list them and what round they are accountable for on our league page.

Being that we are using yahoo, the managers will be responsable getting the players they want to keep on there team in the correct round...

Also, if you go into our league at the top and to the right of where it says our league name there is a drop down that says 2007. If you click on the arrow it will show 2006, there you can access last years league to see the final rosters and the draft results.
