Sometimes looking at just the numbers isn't the best way to analyze effectiveness. Ask yourself if Greg Williams' scheme better utilizes quick, pass-rushing Ends or bigger, run-stopping Ends?

Yes the Colts did get it done with some small ends. Heck the whole defense was small. And they had some serious problems stopping the run. But they somehow got it done when it mattered most. Sometimes it works.

However I don't think it will work here. Freeney and Mathis are better players than anyone we currently have at end. Those guys can get after the QB and we don't have anyone who can rush the passer on the level they do it at. Plus when Sanders came back it was like the Colts defense started playing at a much higher level.

But if our FO think Adams is the best player at the 6th pick then take him. We have to draft the best player and not draft for need.

Trading down requires a partner. To only trade down 4-5 picks I think we'd have to have someone extraordinary there. Someone like Calvin Johnson.

Yeah, the Colts had a small front four and, except for the playoffs, got run on all season long.

Okoye would be a stretch at 6 overall. I'd love to have him, but only if we trade down to the early teens range of the draft. Another guy who I'm watching have a GREAT combine right now is Jarvis Moss out of Florida. Again, not worthy of the 6th pick, but another 1st rd talent at D-line. Gaines Adams BTW turned in the fastest times of all D-lineman at the combine today. If we don't trade that pick and he's available, he's a no brainer to me. I do like Alan Branch. He wouldn't be a stretch for the 6th pick either. He's pure run stuffer at 6-6 330, and we are terrible against the run...

Think San Fran has the 11th pick and they'd want D so they may want to move to 6th spot. If they go DE then Branch might be available at 11th for GW and get another pick too boot.

San Fran will still get a good defensive player at 11. Silly to give up everything they'd have to give up to get the 6th pick. Unfortunately, we don't have Joe Gibbs to trade down with.
