| Re: If we do draft Gaines Adams where do we put him? Could we please get off this idea that Adams and Carter are the same player or even comparable. One is a consensus top ten pick and the other was a cast off from a team that won like three games. Everybody wanted Branch but 1. Like me, the coaches know we don't need a DT as badly as a DE and, 2. it turns out Branch is lazy. I still say they should trade down though.

But they clearly overachieved the standard they set for themselves through the entire regular season. I am hesitant to believe that the Colts defensive system will work for a prolonged period of time without the talent.

But the point remains that he would be replacing Andre Carter, not helping him. Replacing Carter means 10 million MORE pissed away on top of Archuleta's 10 mil and Lloyd's 10 mil. We don't have the money to keep wasting. We can't afford to not get SOME return on our 2006 investment. We have to make this Carter thing work. I don't like it, but its the bed we made for ourselves.

| Re: If we do draft Gaines Adams where do we put him? Anyone know about this DE from Nebraska? The people at the combine are raving about him. 6'6 290lbs. They say he's strong against the run, and can rush the passer. |

He's the DE I'd want to have, but we are going to have to trade down to get him. He's probably going to go in the lower third of the first round.

I don't doubt that Adams will have a good career. I don't doubt that Adams is a good pass-rushing DE. But, I do doubt that Adams and Carter would be an effective duo at stopping the run. He seems like more of an OLB in a 3-4 alignment than a true, every-down 4-3 DE. | |

| Re: If we do draft Gaines Adams where do we put him? Everyone was really on Carter, but is it really the result of him being inadequate as a DE or was it the result of having Warrick Holdman behind him?

| Re: If we do draft Gaines Adams where do we put him? No way, if it weren't for him we would have had the #1 Defense.

| Re: If we do draft Gaines Adams where do we put him? That's definately a good point. I actually like Carter and think that he will be a good player for us. Carter is definately our best pass-rusher but, while he's not horrible against the run, he's certainly not what I would call "stout against the run." |

| Re: If we do draft Gaines Adams where do we put him? Like I said, they should try to try to trade down. If they do though, don't be surprised when the Fedayeen start saying, "We could have had Adams! Fire the FO", as he puts up huge sack numbers for some other team. Also, I realize it's college and its the ACC but when I watched Adams, his play and his physical presence bear no resemblance whatsoever to Ande Carter. Carter gets bulldozed regularly by one guy. Adams was double teamed all last year and didn't budge. And yes he played every down. Besides, with Smoot in house to mentor him it will be on like Donkey Kong.

I agree..Would think we would be looking more for an impact player at #6 as opposed to a player who may not be a starting caliber player at this point. A #6 pick would command a huge investment to be a situational player.
