| Kiper reviews DB's I hope this hasn't been posted already. I checked and did not find it. I know Kipers judgement on players isn't always good, but at least you see some video and learn the names of some of the top prospects. http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/...59789&n8pe6c=1 I like CB Aqib Talib. |

| Re: Kiper reviews DB's I like Aqib Talib, although I haven't been as impressed by him at the combine as I was with others. Imo DRC really stepped up at the combine and he definitely impressed me, but I'm somewhat wary of him because the old rule of thumb that says players who have greatly improved their draft stock at the combine don't necessessarily translate into great professional players.

With a little tutelage, weight room activity, and practice, he could easily be one of the top CB of the last 5-10 years. Talib falls into the early 2nd round IMO

So that one play makes him a sorry CB? If thats the case Carlos Rogers needs to be released now.

| Re: Kiper reviews DB's well, i think the thing with DRC is it'll be his 2nd or 3rd season before he starts to get good at his job in the NFL. the payoff (long term) would be worth it though.

On the other hand, earlier in the game he picked off a pass on the sidelines & took it to the house. He's a good punt returner too, very swift w/his cuts. I think part of the reason guys in college ball will get beat deep by lesser recievers is that they think they can gamble more at that level. If the guy has a decent head on his shoulders then he'll mature as a pro & play more disciplined. In short, you can't expect the game tape of many college players to show a finished product. Talib looks like a very good nfl corner IMO.

| Re: Kiper reviews DB's I only saw Talib play a little during the VT game before my wife made me turn it (VT alum, can't ever take VT losing). My snap assesment (for the very little it is worth) was that he was not particularly fluid in his hips and might have some trouble turning to run with NFL receivers. Personally, I'm very enamored with Devin Thomas at this point (as are some others whose opinion I respect - namely Pat Kirwan - and of course a certain cohort on this site). I'm kind of down to looking at Pat Kirwan's mocks because basically all of these things aren't going to be worth the paper they are printed on come late April, but at least you can see the logic and knowledge in Pat's mocks (and you don't have to be an ESPN Insider to see them). He has us taking Calais Campbell in his latest version - which makes a lot of sense in the scenario he sets up since Devin Thomas, Talib, Derrick Harvey, Phillip Merhling, Brandon Albert, DRC, Kenny Phillips, and Limas Sweed (who I don't think the Skins would take anyway) are all gone. Malcom Kelly is there, but apparently his knees are becoming a big question and he has him falling out of the first for now (Mark Clayton also had knee issues when he came out of Oklahoma and went in the 20's to Baltimore and the knees haven't been an issue - though injuries were last year). I know Campbell ran a 5.whatever and that has turned a lot of internet guys off, but I'd have to go back and look at the tape. The last guy who I remember running a 5.whatever and dropping hard as a result was Darren Howard and he put in some good years for the Saints. In any case, I think Kirwan is worth looking at because he has done it in the NFL (unlike Kiper) and is usually pretty thoughtful/knowledgeable when talking NFL stuff. Mock draft 2.0: Gholston is the new No. 1

Interesting take on Talib. I was saying he might 'sit' on routes too much & look for the big pick, but you think he's actually not fluid in his moves out of the back pedal. Might be something that can be corrected in the nfl. I wouldn't be upset if we picked him, but being a Hokie & knowing that his stock has fallen some, I hope Brandon Flowers is there in round 2 & we use our #1 on the best DE,DT or WR. (But if Brandon Albert were there at 21 that'd be too good to pass up)
