Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

If the Redskins trade down the next available OL to draft on offense are either Cirion Black or Duke Robinson or possibly Tyson Jackson on the DL. If they don't trade down it sure looks like Eugene Monroe is a no brainer. But that might mean Vinny won't do it.

Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

I like maleluga or laurenitis for the first pick. I also like Duke Robinson. I'm not to happy with the mercenaries we're picked up over the years. I do like London Fletcher and Portis though. These worked out well for us. I would've liked to have gotten that kid Mason too. If we did pick up someone on the O or D lines then they had better be younger, cheaper, and not signed for too long to keep them hungry.
I also like Phil Loadholt. We need to get bigger and younger on both lines. I think we will cut or move around the lines, the O more than the D. I saw the O-line get better at pass protection this year. I just think JC isn't that great, yet.... He has improved. I wouldn't worry about the penalties that much with younger guys on the line because the old guys are committing them too.
What I really want to see is how many of these guys who are undrafted try out and who makes it. I think that we have some real potenial at getting a diamond in the rough for costume jewelry money.

Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

I really want Duke Robinson (G -- Oklahoma) and Alex Mack (C -- California). If we could trade down and pick up a 2nd, we might be able to get both of them.

In the third, Phil Loadholt (T -- Oklahoma) could play right tackle.

I wouldn't mind seeing three OL picks this year. I know we need help on the d-line, but this draft is stronger in O-Line prospects. This woud be the draft to have three 2nd round picks.

That would be a draft I could feel very good about. If it were to happen, I would say Vinny has more than proved himself!

I'd be happy to let him get the credit if he'd just listen to me.

I agree with this logic.

Re: 2009 Offensive/Defensive Lineman

I just saw a U-tuber with Everret Brown high lights from another thread and I urge everyone to check him out. I'm still sticking to my picks but if we did pick up E.Brown then I'd still say we had a good draft. I doubt he'll be there by the time # 13 comes around but if he is we've got to seriously consider him for our pick.

I'm a big FSU fan and Brown is awesome, but I don't think he's suited to be a traditional 4-3 DE he's much better suited as an OLB in a 3-4 system. Brown will most likely be a late first rounder and he should most definitely still be on the board by the time we pick but like I said I don't think he fits our defensive scheme.

I really think we only need to add one starter on the O-line this year. I think we should draft a player who can come in and start at RT for us right away. Samuels is still a very good LT, Kendall is still solid at LG, Rabach is serviceable, Thomas is solid at RG, RT is where we need the starter. Heyer and Jansen would be solid depth at the tackle positions, and don't forget Rinehart and Devin Clark who are both young and promising.

Being a defensive type of guy, I would love a Michael Johnson or a big defensive tackle, but protecting JC is a priority if we're going to get the offense where we want it to be. Maybe hit the defensive side of the ball in free agency.
I'm fine with this approach as long as we don't reach for any of the O-linemen when our selection is up. Trading down to get more picks AND still getting the linemen that we're targeting would be a beautiful thing.

Vernon Carey would also be desireable but I don't see Miami letting him get away.

On defense I think we should consider Julius Peppers and Terrell Suggs as potential Defensive Ends with Peppers getting top priority. Not only is he productive but he's big enough to play the left side of course we'll need to find a DT to help get a push up the middle and after Sheriffs little bio about Haynesworth I'm a little less eager to sign him. Unfortunately outside of Jonathan Babineaux theres very little in the way of Free Agent Defensive Tackles.

Draft

Since Free Agency is more likely to produce a quality free agent OL rather then the DT the team so desperately needs then chances are the draft will be a place the team looks to break their streak of ignoring the guys in the trenches on draft day. When big space eating DT's come to mind Terrance Cody pops in pretty fast. Of course according to draft grades theres a few more guys that could be available but chances are Cody is the best fit for what the team needs. Of course Michael Johnson of Georgia Tech is another intriguing prospect considering his raw talent but I keep getting the feeling that he'll go a lot higher then the mid first round range where the Redskins will be picking. Of course then again he could end up having a pre draft process similar to Mathias Kimanuka (SP?) save the great college career.

In terms of first round offensive lineman few selections would please as much as if the team got there hands on Michael Oher of Ole Miss. A huge Tackle that at one point was considered a top 5 talent. To be honest he reminds me of a slightly smaller version of the Eagles Shawn Andrews. Either way he would be a great prospect to replace Jon Jansen though I still say the team might be better off finding out weather or not Jansen can play LG.

Anyone from Oklahoma's O line should be considered first. God damn Bradford had all day to pass most of the time to produce those ridiculous stats of his. Bama and Texas guys should be in the mix also. Peppers and/or Suggs would be killer, but a wad of $$$$$$$$$. I think the top priority of course should be the O line, so I think we should get a DE in the mid rounds. I am not totally privy to our cap situation, so I don't know what shape we are to go after Suggs or Peppers. I think we should rely on the draft more than FA. Going with FA heavily has bitten us in the ass way too much in the Snyder era.

Eben Britton RT out of Arizona also looks like a very good prospect.
