| Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU Anyone know much about this guy? Todd McShay was talking about him in ESPN earlier. Looked him up. Some crazy videos. McShay said something about a lot of untapped talent, he's a bit of a project but he would probably slip to one of our mid round picks. Anyone know where he's slated to go (I realize pre-combine everything is due to change) or know much about him? -- Video of him jumping, fully submerged out of a pool onto the ledge. -- Squatting 635 dead lifting 655... If he works on his strength, one day he could rival me!

| Re: Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU Very raw, some see him as more of a 3-4 DE. Probably a mid to late round pick (4th-6th round). Abiility to play both DT and DE, but maybe not as a starter (not yet at least). More of an athlete than a football player right now. A great combine could push him up into maybe the 3rd round, but I think most teams see him as an extremely intriguing prospect, but could be several years away and that risk makes him less likely to be drafted too high. That jump out of the pool is sick though

| Re: Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU Just a quick reminder: Let's be sure to post draft related threads in the NFL Draft Central forum. Thanks

| Re: Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU Ok, how can we make the pool jump part of the NFL Combine? Can you imagine havin an offensive tackle trying to do that? It'd be hilarious!

| Re: Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU This guy reminds me of that one from Hampton (I think?) last year who had these insane measurables. I think his speed scores were better than all the RBs and he was a DE.

| Re: Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU The pool is just and indicator of his lower body strength. No doubt the kid is rough, but I feel like a project or two per draft is a good investment. Sometimes they turn it into something, sometimes they don't (McCune anyone?)

Don't get me wrong I'm on the youth bandwagon cause they are usually heathier and are quicker to heal. Plus on D it's easier to stick someone in and say this is your job, watch your lane or simply go after the QB, cover this guy. But if you talking offense, I have a hard time immagining any new Rookie O-lineman getting to play unless he had an outstanding O-line coach in college teaching all the NFL mechanics. Again Heyer got lucky due to injuries. | |

| Re: Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU Building through the draft involves patience. Especially when seeing guys on the field. Some positions transition better than others. For instance, if we were going after a running back -- I would expect a rookie to be ready to go. However, QBs, WRs, CBs, etc typically have steep learning curves. Anyone we draft I expect them to sit on the bench for at least a year, sometimes more. They may get in later as they pick up scheme and system. Or as we have a less than healthy team. But part of the problem with building through the draft is botht the team and its fans have to be very very patient to let players develop.

| Re: Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU Now if only we can get the rules changed so that we can have DT's challenge each other to vertical jumps out of the pool. If the winner gets 6 points then we may have something there. |

| Re: Jarron Gilbert - DT SJSU Ive been reading about this guy and did a forum search, and it doesnt surprise me one bit that Daseal beat me to the punch! Why does everyone assume he is just an athelete? He lead EVERYONE with 22 tackles for loss last year. Id be VERY surprised if he was around for our third round pick and was going to propose that if we trade down in the first and get a second that we hope hes available there. This guys stock is goign to go up and we need a big physical presence on the so bad. I also agree with daseal about giving players time to grow and learn the game. But lets be honest here, how hard would it be to earn a starting spot on our defensive line? Our two DTs behind Griffin have 6.5 sacks combined in the last four years...
