| Re: Dream Draft Here's a kiper thought on Sam Bradford to the Skins I just read. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kiper's Mel BagThe Giants' first pick, a QB for Carolina, Bradford to the Skins, Tebow and moreEmail Share By Mel Kiper ESPN Insider Archive I couldn't get to the -- literally -- thousands of questions that filled the mailbag, but I tried to hit a pretty wide range here, from questions about possible inconsistencies in where I have guys rated to direct personnel needs to why the Giants could somehow land a running back in Round 1. And yes, I even explain why Tim Tebow could land in the second round. (Not that he belongs there, but hear me out.) Anyway, on to the 'bag. Q: For much of the season, you had Jimmy Clausen as your No. 4 prospect on the Big Board, ahead of Sam Bradford. But then you have the Skins taking Bradford with the No. 4 pick. I realize the Skins have mismanaged the draft for years, but they have done fairly well in the first round. Are you projecting the Skins to make a mistake by taking Bradford, or do you just think he's the guy who will fit well with Mike Shanahan? -- James (Washington, D.C.) A: The reason I projected Bradford to land with the Redskins at No. 4 has nothing to do with where he had been rated. I should be clear on this: It's my assumption that his shoulder will check out well, and based on what I've heard, I've actually moved him just ahead of Clausen on my board. All things equal, I think Bradford is the better player, and I even had him as the top player on the board last year. So I put him there with the belief that he'll be fine. The early reports we've gotten say he'll be fine, and he's consulted with Dr. James Andrews. His draft grade now reflects what we're hearing. So it's really a case of assuming where I believe he'll be. The Big Board is a week-to-week thing. Bottom line is he's an exceptional talent and would be a fit for the Redskins at No. 4. I also could note that Clausen had toe surgery and won't throw for a while too, but I think he'll recover just fine.

Honestly, I wish one of these mock drafts would say something along the lines of "The Redskins had a horrible offensive line, and while they will probably go QB, they SHOULD take a tackle."

I'm really not sure what the plans are right now, to be honest. And really, anyone who tells you they do isn't telling you the truth. This isn't like last year. | |

| Re: Dream Draft Smootsmack, since you work with ESPN, can you ask Kiper and McShay why the Skins fans should want Bradford since some say Bradfords in a QB friendly offense. Also can you ask Kiper if he's jewish, yes I know its a random question but my neighbor and I were having this debate about him being jewish, but my neighbors reasoning says he looks like a lawyer, so therefore he must be jewish which I say has nothing to do with that, but to end this debate would you ask him that aswell. Thank you.

I love envisioning trade-down scenarios, but those are just too unpredictable. Assuming we don't make any trades, here's my "Dream Draft" atleast at this early stage in the game: 1st Round - Anthony Davis, OT, Rutgers - He's currently the #2/#3 OT on most boards, but he has tremendous upside and could easily surpass Okung and Williams as the draft approaches. Regardless, if we stay at 4, i'm hoping we take the best OT on our board (unless Suh or G McCoy happen to fall. At that point, its a no-brainer that we take either of them) 2nd Round - Tim Tebow, QB, Florida - I know Tebow is pretty raw, but remember what I said about Shanahan drafting based on seeing what a player can do at his best. And before anyone says there's no way we should take Tebow this high - If Devin Thomas was worth taking in the top of the 2nd, Tebow most definately worth the risk. The potential is there. He wouldn't start for atleast 2 years, but could be used situationaly immediately. If Tebow is gone (and I think he probably will be), i'd take Ciron Black, the OT from LSU. 4th Round - RB we've never heard of - You know we're taking one in the 4th.

| Re: Dream Draft Not to say, YES the REDSKINS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY TAKE TEBOW, or even that they should at all, but the only teams who fit the Tebow profile are teams on offense that 1) are in complete rebuilding and can do completely gimmicky stuff in order to get offensive production out of 11 guys who are essentially system players, and 2) teams with excellent structure and continuity already in place. I don't know if the Redskins fall in either of those categories, but if we're absolutely determined to spend a top 40 pick on a QB, then we might as well be in full on rebuilding mode. We don't have very many useful parts at critical skill positions. Shanahan probably isn't gimmicky enough to tolerate Tebow though, so the point is moot. You'd probably have to build primarily from a college playbook to make option 1) work. Option 2) sort of makes itself work.
