But.... as I said it's all speculation. What we do know is he was drafted in the 1st round. Whether he's worthy of that spot is opinion.

My opinion? JC was most likely worthy of a 4,5,or 6th round spot and was majorly coached up. He's definitly a great back up QB. We need a Franchise QB though for the long haul. Hopefully between Dad and Son the Shanahan's can find one where ever they draft him.
Nobody thought Campbell was going to go undrafted. It might have been a reach to take him in the first but there wasn't an analyst anywhere who did not have campbell as a top 3 round talent.

Maybe for now the best COA would be to add one this year early in the draft and use Levi Jones as a stopgap at RT but theres a lot of time between now and the draft.
What we also know right now is that Bruce Allen is a member of this site and he's been reading my past posts

I didn't even know we picked up KL until I read your post, see how much I'm paying attention.

Re: 79 Mock Drafts: Sam Bradford still Redskins projected choice

Something that just hit me now is that the argument to draft a QB at No. 4 is identical to the BPA argument.

I.e. we don't have a pressing concern at quarterback, but if a franchise guy is available at number four, we should take him and not think twice about it.

I agree with the logic. But that's the BPA argument that we always poked Vinny for, and a lot of people are using the same logic to suggest that Bradford/Clausen should be the pick.

/off-topic rant.

What gets me is that neither guy has really shown alot over a 2-3 year span. And with this logic, if the chosen one doesn't live up to the hype, do we draft the BQBA at #1 next year and every year thereafter until we get the one who has actually earned the hype? A #4 pick in the first round doesn't come around often. I hope we use it wisely and for someone who can win a starting job.... like this year.

Didn't know where to put this so thought I would put it here. This is Mike Mayock's early release of the top draft prospects.
Despite injury, Bradford tops list of QBs in initial prospect rankings

A lot of people have the Vinny Cerrato mentality, just look at the thread where people gush over Sanchez, while completely disregarding the great offensive line and running game that the Jets have created.

I hate to say it but the Jets got very lucky this year. They're definitely a good team but look at the facts. They had 5 field goals missed against them in their first two playoff games. The last two games of the season where they needed to win out to get to the playoffs they were able to get games where their opponents were resting most of their starters for the second half.

They finally went up against a team with a solid O-Line (not great like the Jets), a good defense, and a franchise QB and basically couldn't keep up once the second half started. And by the way they should have lost to the Chargers. I mean great story that a gritty team like them won but if Nate Kaeding makes 2 of those kicks the Jets are going home a week early.

The Jets success next year will depend heavily on Sanchez becoming an 80+ QB. Make no mistake they worked for what they got but they still had a lot of help along the way.

We will add O-Lineman through the draft. Possibly as many as 3 if BA's draft record holds up. It's just that everyone shouldn't be surprised if it isn't with the #4 pick. Trust me, if it is a QB, you'll be thanking the front office by the end of the 2012 season, and not in a sarcastic way like....you know, "thanks Vinny." This isn't your Vinny Cerrato Redskins. If Vinny Cerrato was running this draft we'd be looking at a S, WR, CB, LB, K, and QB.

Yes. Something that seems to get lost in this conversation is a longer-term perspective. Suppose that over the next two offseasons we rebuild the offensive line so that it is quite good by 2011 or 2012. Don't we want a Philip Rivers or other bigtime QB behind them, when that happens? If so, you don't get such a QB very often in the lower rounds. Typically such a QB can only be found in the first 5 picks (there are exceptions, of course).

So, in the longer term perspective, if Shanny sees someone that he thinks is a true franchise QB at #4, it actually makes sense to take him, even with our enormous offensive line needs.

I'm not arguing to take a QB. But many people see the argument as an OL/QB either/or for 2010 only, and it seems to me that in long-term perspective things are more complex than that.

Not only was it a reach to take him in the first round it was complete stupidity to give away 3 draft picks to make that reach.

They gave up 2 and swapped 1sts. But the point I was trying to make was he would not of slipped past the third round let alone go undrafted.

In all fairness he was projected to go to the Browns at 34 if he slipped by the Redskins at 25.

Re: 79 Mock Drafts: Sam Bradford still Redskins projected choice

West Virginia OL Selvish Capers -- Capers was the best offensive lineman on the South team on Day 2, showing good mobility when getting to the second linebacker as a run blocker. He also played with balance and showed good lateral mobility with his feet. During 1-on-1 drills, Capers anchored well and held his ground, at one point just erasing East Carolina DE C.J. Wilson on consecutive plays. He is not overly explosive and will have trouble at times with bigger bull rushers, and Capers needs to get stronger in the lower body, but he will be a good fit for a zone blocking scheme in which the emphasis is on getting into space and taking sound angles to defenders because he plays under control and has good feet.

Looks like I might have been wrong about Iupati

Idaho OL Mike Iupati -- There is not a weakness in Iupati's game when he's lined up at guard. His quick first step, lateral quickness, and long arms make him a dominant force inside, and he is a nasty finisher who is not satisfied until defenders are on their backs. And while he struggled a bit when moved to left tackle during practice, Iupati is stepping up against the higher level of competition and based on what we've seen we have no problem giving him a late-first-round grade as a guard. In fact, he's the best guard prospect we've seen in the last two drafts.

UMass OL Vladimir Ducasse is talented but is being exposed a bit on the first day in pads. His lack of technique and playing experience is showing today.

West Virginia's Selvish Capers has been the best offensive lineman on the South team during Day 2. He is showing good mobility, is getting to the second level well and would be a good fit for a zone-blocking team. Capers stopped Georgia DL Jeff Owens cold twice during drills.

Georgia DT Geno Atkins is showing good quickness today and looks like a solid fit as a 3-technique in the NFL. At one point, Atkins abused Alabama G Mike Johnson with a quick first step and good hand use.

Re: 79 Mock Drafts: Sam Bradford still Redskins projected choice

Washington Redskins
Top needs: QB, OT, RB, G, DE
First round (4): Sam Bradford
Second-round options (37): OT Charles Brown, OT Selvish Capers, RB Jahvid Best
Third-round options: No third-round picks (used in the supplemental draft)
Summary: For a roster that really needs an infusion of talent and depth, you could question the quarterback pick so early, but Bradford represents a chance to get a franchise quarterback, and again, you're getting the player many had pegged as the No. 1 option for the Lions last year had he jumped. You expect Mike Shanahan to retool the offensive line, and both Brown and Capers are the athletic types Shanahan prefers.

What kind of parents name their child "Selvish"? I wonder how much grief he got as a kid.
