Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

"I think the biggest upside that I have, and one of the things that I have over all the quarterbacks in the draft, is I've played in a pro-style offense," Clausen said. "I know how to change protections. I know how to make alerts to get to a better play. Sometimes you call two, three plays in the huddle. You have to know whether [the defense] is in an over front, even front or if they're in an off front. I know how to call the Mike ID every single time. I just know my hot [reads] and my side adjusts. It's just a lot of different things that in different offenses, spread offenses, that you wouldn't see."

The "punishment" by the league : "It's like getting a ticket for going too fast on a road a week ago and they changed the speed limit today"

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

I think Clausen could start as a rookie and do well in the right situation, he's definitely the most ready to start right away. The only question is regarding upside when comparing these QBs.

That'd be my guess.

Just removed the last couple of posts because I had a total brain freeze and didn't realize I was basically asking one scenario Tripp presented in his own Clausen thread

But you are correct, I don't like, nor want Clausen on the Redskins. I can see how I have come across as annoying, and that was part of my intention. Watching that interview annoyed me, Clausen, annoys me. I was seeing if it was only me. Maybe, it is.
i didnt see all of claussens interview but i did hear that vinny was coaching him up for interviews. vinny is the king of ending every sentence with a "ya know". i hate that to, no i dont know b/c you suck at explaining what your trying to convey to me so when you say "you know" after an attempt to inform me .... no i dont freakin know, ya know!

That part of his game is extremely intriguing. If you can read defenses in this league you can be a top tier QB, and apparently thats Clausens strong suit. In fact I'd say that attribute makes him much more attractive then Bradford.

^ The more I think about it, the more I think that we will grab Clausen. I'm not sure that ShanAllen will see the difference between Bradford and Clausen to be worth the price of a trade-up.

There are tons of parallels between those two. I could see him sliding but i doubt if all stays the same that he slips past the bills at 9. Personally I want us to pick him, i think we can get linemen with the rest of our picks.

This may not be the best comparison but the Clausen vs Bradford seems similar to the Alex Smith/Aaron Rodgers draft. Rodgers was more experienced in a pro style offense in college but the 49ers went with the more accurate and talented quarterback. As of now Rodgers has clearly been the better player. This is the sign that makes me consider clausen.

and....why is this an issue?

I mean Clausen has done well in the college ranks. No? The football in the college ranks is bigger round. If he can throw that damn ball why can't he throw an NFL football which will be smaller round?

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

I don't know what to think of Mayock anymore. I know he has to look at every prospect but just now he questioned Clausen's work ethic and leadership. The leadership I can kind of see though I do think it's slightly overblown. The part that ticked me off was the criticism of his work ethic. The one thing I've constantly heard about Clausen, even from his detractors (Mayock aside) is that he's a film rat and spends a LOT of time watching film. To have that out there and question his work ethic is kind of reckless if you ask me.

Also a funny thing to keep in mind is that if Quinn had been a hit then Clausen would easily have been in the running for first pick in the draft.

It's all of these Notre Dame haters. McShay is at the top of the list. They try to paint this guy in the worst way and he is the most NFL ready QB coming out this year.

THANK YOU!!! That's what I've been saying and he can make the throws and move around in the pocket if need be. This guy could be our Peyton Manning!

Re: Jimmy Clausen has met with the Redskins

I am no Claussen fan, but he really does take too much criticism, most of it seems unwarranted. Every interview I have seen and heard with him has been impressive, and in no way shows any faults in his personality. He was a unanimous Captain of the team, and most of his criticisms have come from anonymous teammates, reporters, and scouts. It appears to me that there were a few bad apples on his Notre Dame team, and he is taking the heat for all of them.
I do prefer Bradford myself, but Claussen is gaining my respect for how he is handling this onslaught of negative perceptions. I am finding it easier to root for him the more he gets pounded on.
