Omar Bolden, the CB out of ASU was considered a late 1 early 2nd rounder but he got injured in practice before the season started, and never came back. The Skins worked him out and liked him at that first 4th rounder, but he was gone. Him being gone, and Cousins being that highly ranked made it a more easier decision for shanahan.

I'm just glad that this Kirk Cousins talk is dying down.
Yeah, a friend of mine told me the next day that that is who they wanted. He was also under the opinion that if we could not get Griffin we would have drafted Cousins as early as the second round. When I realized that he was available, in the fourth that is the gut I hoped for. It was a great pick. I think we will get a minimum of third round compensatory pick for him when its all said and done.

Robert Griffin and Kevin Kolb are separated by a gulf of physical talent.

I concur. A lot of these NFL analysts don't know anything. If they were smart they would observe closely what the Redskins quarterback situation was and came to the conclusion that the Redskins not only desperately needed a quality starter to man the position, but equally a quality back up. Rex Grossman is only the back up because he knows the offense. The drafting of Kirk Cousins could prove to be one of the most valuable picks by the Redskins in years.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

one of the most important qualities in a backup qb is ball security. todd collins was an exceptional backup for us because he did not throw a single int (only 2 lost fumbles). in the turnover department, cousins doesn't have an uphill battle vs. rex (24 int, 9 lost fumbles in 17 games)

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

Every NFL team has to have a quality backup quarterback. It also helps the development of a quarterback when he has a quality supporting cast ala Matt Cassel with 11-5 New England when Tom Brady went down with a season ending injury in 2008.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

MS talked about the QB split RG3/Crompton 80/20 that's right. Grossman/Cousins 50/50 I have a problem with this, only because Grossman will be showing/teaching Cousins all his bad habits & wrong reads.

Yeah, because only high first round draft picks end up being really good NFL quarterbacks. Best Cousins can expect is a long career as a backup. It's hopeless if you're not the first or second QB drafted. The experts always get it right.

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

The overly defensive position some people take in regards to Cousins is silly.
Only time will tell if Cousins was the 'right' pick or a 'good' pick.
It will depend on how Cousins pans out compared to how the other players that were available pan out.

Can we talk about Cousins as a prospect and leave all the other....

kind of like how every backup that has been traded has had great success? it would have stung more if you said end up being traded for low round draft picks as opposed to being really good nfl quarterbacks

Re: Kirk Cousins pick 4.7

I mean, debates are mostly worthwhile but I'm not sure Cousins deserves 25 pages. Sure there's an opportunity cost to the pick, but it's not likely to be anything significant in the 4th round. As a comparison, the opportunity cost of Mike blowing up the defense when he arrived is metaphysically certain to surpass anything associated with the Cousins pick.

...but anywho, it's only May and we're all a little bored I reckon.
