| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread Don't get me wrong...conservatively they'll get a monster for 3-4 years but a guy that size and with that type of makeup can't be expected to stay healthy into his 30's. They're going to get old pretty fast in 5 years and be tied into a hell of a lot of money to be so. |

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread With no DH in the NL, that deal definitely would not have been worth it for us. Kind of nice though that both Pujols and Prince are out of the NL

It's not even that. You don't pay 200+ million for a DH. That kind of dough you pay to a guy who's going to provide offense and defense. A Barry Bonds, and Alex Rodriguez, a Ken Griffy, Jr. (in prime). Detroit is going to be begging people to take this guy in about 5 years. Make no mistake, I thought the Pujols contract was even worse than this one.

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread They overpaid and knew they were doing so. That was a one off deal to elevate the perception of the club. Of course then Werth went and just sucked so it worked out about as bad as it could have. If he recovers to be closer to what he was in '10 then the deal will have been worth it. Remember... the Nats were a laughing stock until they pulled the string on that deal. Ohhh and the Lerners are the richest owners in baseball...they can afford it...if they want to. Before the Werth deal Fielder doesn't even consider DC as a destination. |

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread Which is exactly why I blame owners come negotiating time and they claim they are losing money. Yeah, because you are paying bums like this 100 million dollars. DERP

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread Sounds like Bryce Harper will make the opening day roster if he does well in Spring Training. Not too sure if I like that or not, especially when it comes to arbitration, but we'll see. |

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread Not only that, but I really don't want the arbitration clock to start clicking. If they're going to do it, the need to hold off until June. I agree though, he needs more AB's in the minors. I believe I read he has less than 600? |

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread Yup, I'll be there with my dad. We've been to every home opener since they moved to DC. It's definitely my favorite tradition.

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread Yah...expectations are high this year. Not sure if they're quite "there" yet enough to make much of a difference in the NLE. But at least we enter the season with some kind of excitement. |

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread And on Harper: there is ZERO chance he makes opening day roster. It would be a tremendously stupid business and baseball move. Why waste a entire year of team control when he is 23 to have him for an extra month or two when he is 20? Won't happen. He could hit 23 HRs in spring training and he'll still start in AAA. |

| Re: Official Nationals and Orioles 2011 Thread Yeah I'm excited for this season, will be the first time we go above .500 most likely. As long as players like Morse can keep jacking and LaRoche gets back to his normal play, we should be good. Not too sure about the whole playoff talks, unless we have two wildcard teams, but nonetheless I'm still excited. They happen to air the first spring training game on 106.7 the fan on my birthday, so I'll be listening to that for sure! |
