Re: The 2012 London Summer Olympics Thread

So ... FYI for those who care, we are momentarily ahead of China in the medal count total and in the number of golds. (54 to 53 and 26 to 25). I think that's the first time we have been ahead since the games started.

Think what they would have done if left to sleep with his boyfriend.

as far as badmiton - blame the rules, not the players. once you force people to start playing meaningless games, things can get pretty shady. they can go to double elim or random pairings if they want to fix that problem.

Something that has gone unnoticed by most of the media.

American TV Neglected the Saddest Story in the Olympics [UPDATE]

WTF is wrong with the IOC here? Quite inconsistent. The absolutely robbed this young girl of a medal. So wait, the can review tape on a gymnastics event, but they can't review tape to see some kid didn't start the timer when it should have? Really? Really?

ince the incident, it has come out that the timekeeper for the event was a 15 year old British volunteer. Really? This isnít fencing class at the Y, this is the Olympics. There was nobody in the entire world with any timekeeping experience that could have been called upon to take on such an important task? When I was 15, I wouldnít have had the attention span to do that job either. Whoever made the choice to put a child in charge of the clock for an Olympic event should be fired.

A 15 year old time keeper in the biggest stage of sporting events? YOU HAVE GOT TO BE SHITTING ME....lol REALLY?

**** the IOC. This is absolute garbage. They've overturned gymnastic events, boxing events, and even cycling events and yet .......refuse their complaint?

nbc just wants this news to circulate for a bit then they will do a few stories on it mid week but in the middle of the story they will take a commercial break, then come back with costas blowing hot air for 10 minutes, then most likely start another story before getting back to and finishing the original story. and if your lucky they'll throw in a tiny little bit of olympic coverage too. nbc

Meanwhile, the other athletes are having an all-out orgy with strangers on the grass between police cars in the village and no one cares, even after they brag on the daytime talk shows. This guy was with his wife.

This is upside down.

Half the kids performing on the stage are around the age 15 so is that really a big deal? The story is very short on details. Like how long did they go over the second.

Competitors have no responsibility to anyone else for their performance. Officials and in this case, time keepers DO.

This is completely ridiculous. There have been a ton of blunders in these London Games, starting with the torch.

There are 21 and 22-year old starters in the NFL. Do you want college kids filling in as referees?

It went about 2 seconds. It's no different if there was 1 second on the clock and a team shot a basket after 5 seconds have transpired and the clock didn't start. Imagine the Skins losing the Super Bowl on 1 second TD pass all because the clock guy didn't start it. That's about the equivalent here, and a huge fail on the IOC for not correcting the mistake. It's not even close.

Come on FD. A 15 year old participating in the event and a 15 year judging the event or participating in operating a clock is another story. Really? /facepalm
