On the contrary...the whole sport has no class. I thought riders were tested right after every win...which he passed. Did they ever get an actual failed test from him?

If so, did they punish every other rider who is doping? (because they all are)

Maybe he did do it but from the start, it really looked like the Europeans had a witch hunt mentality against him because an American was dominating "their" race every year.

I say, good for you, Lance. You won those jerseys.

I still don't see Bonds, Sosa or McGwire's records removed. History happened, Armstrong won those races and at the time, there was no evidence that he cheated...at the time.

I think he just got tired of fighting a losing battle...they weren't going to give up.

Monkeydad, we all know that testing isn't exactly foolproof. What this guy did was ran a pretty subtle operation. While everyone doping should be punished, you have to cut off the head. With the extensive list of financial transactions, eye-witness accounts, and abnormalities in testing -- they have plenty of evidence against him.

For years there have been allegations against him for doping. It took some time to build the full case. I can't really believe he's 'tired of fighting.' Not sure about you, but it's worth my time to fight allegations like that. These allegations came in a formal document that would be easy to refute if he were innocent. Not sure about you, but if I were innocent you better damn well believe I've been fighting.

Lance Armstrong is, and has always been, the epitome of a scum bag.

The sport at that time and probably still now isn't about best rider...it's about who the best cheater is. Lance was the best among them. If everyone is cheating is it cheating? There is a very real chance that every single rider in every TdF he won was doping. The whole sport is a mess. Not sure anything that has come out makes lance a scumbag. I am quite sure his work for cancer research doesn't.

Pretty much. Cycling is currently built upon PEDs. Has been for probably 20 years. It's more common place than any ther sport. Basically everyone does it or they lose.

Lance is a fraud, but at the end of the day he beat cancer in amazing fashion, and still won 7 Tour De France's. Sure he was doping, but from what FRPLG is saying, so was everyone else, so the playing field was level right? lol.

At least he founded Livestrong and raised millions for cancer research. Hey may be a fraud as far as the doping, but he's done a hell of a lot of good and amazing things too.

This. I used to feel like Armstrong strongly deserved the punishment for doping, but in a sport where doping is common throughout I feel like it's the system that deserves to be scrutinized instead of Armstrong. With all that said I will gain a slight measure of respect for Armstrong if he comes out and admits it. Honesty is always the best policy.

True, Lance was a doper among a field of dopers. The sport has been tainted since the the Tour de France started, and I've read many articles on how even the earlier champions doped or used some sort of PEDs.

That said, Lance wasn't exactly on a equal playing field with these other guys. Why you ask? Because Lance had the financial backing to allow him the best access to blood doping and world class doctors that specialized in blood transfusions. Not all the riders had this type of backing which is where the playing field became unequal. Even so, it's still a impressive feat to go out there after beating cancer and win 7 TdF's.

It does not work for me. No matter how you try to spin it...wrong is wrong. No matter how many were cheating, it does not make Lance any More right. It just makes all the rest wrong to.
Next time you get a speeding ticket....try telling the cop "WTF dude, everybody was speeding. You can't single out me!"
See how that works........
