I used to work in the sports department of a tv station, covered the Redskins, and Shepherd was always very rude to me and my coworkers whenever he was around. Could never cooperate when we wanted to talk to him, and would seem to go out of his way to make things difficult when we wanted to talk to ohter players. Players used to call us as we were arriving at Redskins Park to do interviews and say "Listen, Leslie is still here at the park. Give me five minutes to get him out of here and I'll give you a call when he leaves" Even they knew how difficult it was to be around him.

Connell was the same way. Then you had guys like Kevin Lockett who were fantastic to work with.
