Re: F... gas prices

You get what you pay for...in this case the ability to independently drive to where you want to go and enjoy your freedom. If the price isn't to your liking perhaps it's time for you to lend strong support for better public transportation?

I know the word "public" is scary to some of you but the benefits to your pockets outweigh your disdain for "big" government.

Re: F... gas prices

public transit in dc is a joke, nothing ever works and it cost so much might as well be comfortable and drive yourself

here in woodbridge the wawa at miniieville and caton hill has gas at $3.77 which is about what gas is down here, it's $3.82 at the exxon at minnieville and old bridge. i was in springfield today and the gas at the exxon at rolling rd and braddock rd is $4.05 and thats f-ing retarded. i don't understand how gas could be $.28 different with about 10 miles of each other. f-ing oil companies, there needs to be some sort of gudieline as to where the gas prices should be. there is no reason at all that gas prices should have that big of a difference when they are that close to each other.

and although i like the idea of a hybrid i think right now is the worst possible time to buy one. you are most likely going to pay $2-3k more than you should for the car. and even though you will be saving 20 to 30 at the pump it's gonna take a lot of fill ups to make it worth while.

Lol every year on the news without fail:

winter - "gas prices are expected to go up as demand is increasing for home heating as teperatures drop across the country"

summer- "gas prices are expected to go up b/c of demand as travelers fill up for road trips vacation plans...."

Its 4.16 for premium at my cheap gas spot in Baltimore. Its about 4.35 for premium in silver spring right now.

Insane, im spending 16 bucks a day to go to work assuming a low-ball estimate of me getting 22.5 mpg on 90 miles round trip.

Funny how people don't seem to care as much as they did 2-3 years ago. It's like we've gotten used to getting robbed at the pump. $5/gallon is probably right around the corner.

So then whats stopping it from going tp $7.00 by 2014?
$10.00? $11.00? $12.00?
Since the USA sucks down mammoth proportions of gas every year I'd say its time the govt started making some seruios rules or our lifestyles are going to be foxxored big time.

Re: F... gas prices

Simple supply and demand. Some of the largest countries in the world are becoming industrialized. With the rise of demand from India and China there's no doubt prices will go up. I love how people love to preach free market and capitalism -- then bitch when oil companies charge more for gas. They should be doing what nets them the highest profit. Who here has stopped driving? I haven't. It will take a much high price to get me to quit as well.

It's time to start finding renewable energy sources. Not bitch about gas prices.

This.

My family were trying to figure out which grocery store is best for us, and have stuck with Giant Food strictly for the Shell Gas Points. From our shopping, I save $1.20/gallon at Shell today, paying $2.69/gallon. Was able to fill up both cars for around $70 (around 26 gallons).

Luckily, my job is 3 miles from my house, so I fill up the minivan once every 10 days or so. My wife commutes to Rockville and back (70 miles round-trip) 3 days a week, so she's filling up once every 4 commuting days or so.

I remember in college being able to fill my 12 gallon gas tank for less than $10. And my 88 Accord got 30+ miles to the gallon. Damn, I wish I still had that car.

You might be saving in gas but you spent $1200 in groceries in 30 days!

I too use the gas points at Giant and the program works like this 1 point for every $1 spent. You need 100 points or $100 spent to save a .10 on a gallon of gas. You can use for one fill (one car) a max of 35 gallons and/or 2200 points. Points only last 30 days no roll over.

You can check the rules here under FAQ:

Gasoline*-* Giant

So your above scenario seems off how you got 1200 points and filled two cars doing that. Either your confused or did the math wrong. I just don't know how you got 1200 points in 30 days which would also mean you are filling up somewhere else because you be eating into your points and/or you literally had a one time $1200 shopping trip and in that case gas is not the drain on your budget it is your food bill. Plus how you got the discount on two cars is a head scratcher too me.

Honestly I use the programing but in no way do I think it is some super savings. I have too spend $100 (I realize not hard to do when you have a family) to save a .10 on a gallon gas which equates to me filling my 20 gallon tank and I save a whooping $2.
