| Superstar mode How many people that play Madden are addicted to this like I am? I've been playing SS mode pretty much everytime i get my hands on the controller. What has made it so addicting for me is because they changed it so you only control your player. It's given me a new look on individual player positions that i hadn't experienced before. On the other hand, my experience hasn't been completely enjoyable. I'm doing a wide receiver currently, it seems to be the position everyone is doing. Unfortunately, i just had to get drafted by none other than the Pittsburgh Steelers. At first i thought it would be okay playing for the Steelers, but now i know exactly why Plaxico Burress and Randle El left as soon as they got a chance. I've done 4 games so far, and the run to pass ratio is 32:18. This is extremely annoying. Not to mention that when they do throw the ball, Roethlisberger never looks at me because i'm the rookie, or for w/e reason. Not to mention if we're leading in the third quarter, i'd be willing to bet Roethlisberger won't throw another pass the rest of the night unless we get behind again.I can't wait until this two year deal is over and i can leave, hopefully for the Skins. |

| Re: Superstar mode I've never gotten into the superstar mode. I just like to plow through season after season, I really like the offseason stuff and building my team. And I like to battle online with one of my friends, we go way back playing Madden and Tecmo together. I might have to give this superstar stuff a shot though. |

| Re: Superstar mode SS is better now. you can't role a 99 speed WR and mae him a DE anymore though but you can add 4 spd, 8 awr, and 4 sta during the preseason to your guy (beside the normal progressions).2007 has at least 500 errors in its roster (rosters missing players, players not existing that'll make cuts, position errors, contract errors, etc). So i'm working on fixing that.

| Re: Superstar mode You know, I'm enjoying Superstar mode a lot more than i was last season, but i'm seriously starting to hate being a wide receiver on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Before i continue, let me apoligize for this cuss filled rant that i am about to unleash upon the masses. If you don't want to read it, please feel free to not, but i need to unleash this anger before i punch my t.v. in a fit of rage. [rant]WHY, OH WHY, does Bill Cowher suck so much ass at calling plays in Madden. You'd think that he'd learn from the other 31 coaches in the NFL, that when you are down, it is best not to call ****ing run plays all the m.f.'ing time and use PASS PLAYS. I'm a god forsaken wide receiver, with 94 speed and and the ability to burn defenders all the time, but according to mother****ing almight B.C. all i'm useful for is run blocking. For instance, on this one stupid ass touchdown drive that lasted all of 41 yards, he ran the ball 8 times, and passed once, which was one third down btw. And you know what else, even though it was a pass play, as soon as stupid ass ben got the ball he took off running and didn't even bother going through his progressions to see if anyone was open. The Steelers are now 3-7, having lost four straight, and the percentage we ran the ball in those four losses was like 65 percent. Not to mention big ben is acting like mike vick every time a pass play is called, half the time he won't even look at anyone, he'll just take off running. In my latest loss, we were down by 10 at the start of the third quarter, and everytime we got the ball we'd run twice for like -3 yards then throw it on third down, only to get incomplete or ben would get sacked. He's averaged under 75 passing yards in the last four games too. In 10 games so far, i have 11 catches for 217 yards and 6 touchdowns. You wanna know why i got 6 touchdowns, was because everytime a pass play was called, I ran deep and beat the coverage to get the score. And you know what the worst part is. After my latest loss i simply gave up, and decided that i would go and get a trade, even though it would make me look bad. So i go to my agent's office, lo and behold the stupid ****ing trade deadline has already passed. Now i still have to go through 6 more games with this stupid ****ing team before i can ask for a trade, since i can't ask to get released. [/end rant] In the end, there's only one lesson that can be taken from my rant. If you are a wide receiver, and you get drafted by the Steelers, either immediately ask for a trade or announce your retirement. That is, unless you love run blocking. |

| Re: Superstar mode be a safety, you'll play every down. and you can return and cover kicks if you want. I got a (HoF SS father, mother - track star) with 97 speed. if you take a HoF corner/track star, you're pretty much gauranteed 99 speed, which makes everything SOOO much easier. track star/4x40yard dash for life. I even managed to break 4.2 in the 40 (4.18). entering the league at 99 OVR and i still don't get taken until the 4th round

| Re: Superstar mode I still haven't figured out how to run the 40 or do the bench press. I heard it was included on the ps2 but so far i haven't seen anything about it. When i did pre draft workouts for teams it was just the standard drills they had last year. Oh yeah, and as for my Steelers wide receiver, i noticed that the rosters were the standard ones that come with the game, not my edited version with all the roster updates and such. That finalized my decision to retire. I've started two new SS careers instead of one this time, so i can get different perspectives and such. One of them is another wide receiver i made, I really liked being a wideout so i decided to make another one. My dad was a HOF wideout that said he was his day's Randy Moss and my mom was a sprinter, or some ish like that. Anyways, after the draft i found out my overall was a 90, my speed was 99, my acceleration was 98, my agility 97, and my catch 84. I liked it so i'm gonna keep one with that one. Oh yeah and i got drafted by the Jets, which i hope will mean i get more catches lol. For my other career i started a strong safety, with a HOF dad and a team doctor for my mom. I don't know my ratings yet though, cuz i haven't gotten through the draft. |

| Re: Superstar mode you want a track mother and high IQs. In order to get a custom roster, you have to load it before starting your SS guy, but i think you already know that. this is borked though - guy i just made: DE, track mom (+5spd), HoF dad (physical freak), IQ 150/150, +4spd from 40yard dashes, +4 AWR from IQ test. (i'll get 4awr/3-4sta after preseason too) OVR: 99 (and again, went in the 4th round) AWR: 88 SPD: 95 (on a DE!) AGI: 89 ACC: 93 JMP: 87 (again, on a DE) TAK: 68 STR: 79 HGT: 7'0" WGT: 415 (phat) so, uhh, i can cover randy moss... still waiting to see if you can actually make a scrambling (vick like) QB though, since that was absent from 2006 and from every madden draft ever (sometimes you'd get a guy with like 86 speed, but 60 acc and agi, which is worthless).

| Re: Superstar mode btw, you can reload your guy before the draft and keep simming it to get on a better team (like the colts or the eagles). then just put yourself at the top of the depth chart and rack up stats. and if you're using a defensive guy, get a team with good DBs or they'll get burnt left and right.

| Re: Superstar mode I got drafted by the raiders and I noticed that they always call run plays as well. And not only are they run plays, but they're draw plays which pretty much never work. Usually i have to audible 80 percent of the plays they call.

| Re: Superstar mode Quote:
Anyways, playing SS mode has really helped me understand how hard it is to play wideout in the NFL. I have found a new respect for wideouts because of it. Unfortunately, if there's one universal truth that i've taken from playing this, it's this: In Madden, if you are in the third quarter or fourth, and you're ahead from anywhere by 1-100 points, they will never pass the ball again. At halftime i managed to get ahead 21-20 on a flea flicker. Then, when the second half began and we got the ball back, we ran. And ran again. And again. I saw instances where it was like 3rd and 15, 3rd and 19, and the Jets coach would be calling runs up the middle, despite Curtis Martin having a 3 ypc average. Pennington on the other hand, only threw 18 passes the entire game, most of them in the first half. I mean, what does it have to take for a team to throw the ball while they're ahead. For instance, late in another game, with about 3 minutes to go, i have the ball at my own 18 yard line. The Jets coach called two runs on first and second down, and we gained about 5 yards total with that. Unfortunately, i got a holding penalty against me on first down, and one of the lineman had a false start on second down. So on third down, I had the ball at the 18, and it was 3rd and 20, with 3 minutes to go. You'd think they would call a pass that could get us a first down. Instead, he calls a run up the middle, and Martin gets stuffed for a 2 yard loss. I punt, and the Bills offense manages to get downfield and kicks a 32 yard game winning field goal right before time expires. It's like they don't even care about winning the game. Sometimes, when i'm trying to mount a comeback with less than 2 minutes to go in the game, he'll call runs. I've looked for sliders so i can adjust the run/pass ratio, but so far i haven't seen anything. And i'm afraid that's the way it is with every team. I hope if i pick the Skins in free agency, it won't be like that, but i'm not sure. One thing's for certain, if you're a running back, you'll love SS mode. Ok, another thing that sucks about SS mode, is rushing stats. I just finished the regular season. Look at these stats, there were 26 running backs that finished with over 1000 yards, 14 of them had over 1500 yards, L.T. finished with over 2000 yards rushing alone, and there were 19 backs that finished with 300+ carries, 8 of them finished with over 400 carries, including Ahman Green who lead the league in carries with 471. Oh yeah and one more thing, Greg Jones, listed as a fullback for Jacksonville, had a 99 yard run for a td. How the F a fullback run 99 yards without someone catching him is beyond me. Also, i've given up on being a wide receiver. I catch most of the balls that get thrown my way, but that's just it, none get thrown my way, despite me being the #1 wide receiver on the Jets. I finished with only 34 catches for 570 yards and 7 touchdowns. I'm switching to db now, god i hope it's realistic. | |

| Re: Superstar mode After going through the offseason, i've realized something. SS mode is still not where it should be. The fun of getting to experience playing from the eyes of one person on the field is not enough to offset all the negative ish that makes you hate it. That and there are some incredibly unrealistic things about it. One thing i really disliked, was in the offseason, i went to go see who the Jets resigned, released, or signed through free agency. Turns out they didn't sign anyone, they released everyone who's contract was up, including over half the depth, and the same goes for every team in the league. I went to go see what the Redskins did, and pretty much everyone on the team that had one year left on their deals was gone. Mark Brunell retired, Collins was cut leaving the team with a 77 rated Jason Campbell, we only had one backup player on the oline, which was someone at left guard, we didn't resign Lemar Marshall, we only had 3 corners which were Springs, Rogers, and Christian Morton. Seeing that made me realize it didn't matter if i made the HOF, it's just not fun going through all that crap that you go through in SS mode. That's why i'm going back to franchise, where i can resign my players, trade for others, and slowly grow my players the way i want. |
