I know you weren't specifically addressing me, but I want to make clear that I certainly don't believe that right-wingers are homophobic, xenophobic, etc.

I guess that's how Clinton survived all of his lies, crimes and infidelities and is even getting a second chance through his wife...he already had a track record of it when we elected him the FIRST time, so we just said "that's Bill being Bill."
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!

The idea that you can't or shouldn't "legislate morality" is nonsense. You can't legislate anything else.
That might be the single most common sense thing I've read here in a while.

I agree that nearly all law is based on society's morals. But, IMO, the modern day right is pretty well known for pushing certain values (i.e., Christian values) to the exclusion of others. In that regard, the right has lost its way and has strayed too far from its "small government" roots.
I completely agree with you on the latter point, but with respect to the former point, how is any other group of people any different?

What it boils down to is that everyone is pushing for their own sense of morality to be installed and defended by the government, whether you're a right-wing Christian or a left-wing homosexual.

In the end, the majority will rule. If the majority elects leaders that enact laws they want and generally do the will of the people, tough shit for the minority.

6) The fact this guy was a dem, doesn't matter to me I didn't think Larry Craig deserved to lose his job either. But leave to some, who wanted to turn everything I say into ,"your just mad because he is a dem" and make personal insults at me.
Another attorney with a J.D. from "Law & Order: SVU." How's it working for you?

I frankly don't have the time to address each asinine point by itself, but #5 stands out as the dumbest one here.

Every law is an imposition of morals. Murder and rape are illegal because the majority has decided it's immoral and we won't tolerate it.

Wake up.

I hope no one thought I was addressing you. As a fellow Republican (moderate republican) who's a minority I know how you roll.

And you can try to twist my words on what I said about morality, but I stand by the fact that the GOP plays the morality card to appeal to the Christan conservatives, but usually these "morals" are more about fear and hate. Bush basically won in 2004 on the "issue" of gay marriage.
Hijinx buddy, I know that you think that people are piling on here but really.... Clinton never had a 90% approval rating. In fact, until Bush HE had the worst approval rating ever of any president.

Your earlier quote: "I already said that if he committed a real crime he should receive the max sentence."

To assert he did not commit a "real crime" seems to be me to be an assertion that his actions were in some way not criminal. Sorry, which words that you use should I assign their traditional definition and which should I understand to be Hijinx definitions?

I'll let the judge and jury decide what he gets. Again, it's that silly rule of law thing. If he is never charged, or if after charges are filed he goes free, more power to him. It does not change the appropriate public ramifications for the admitted misdeeds of a public official.

If party politics and media play a part in this, it is, again, something this particular political person brought upon himself. He played the high moral card in all of his prior elections. As with all those exposed for hypocrisy, political opponents will seize upon the flaws and the public will be particularly unforgiving.

These are both the same point. Essentially - victimless crimes do not affect negatively affect the society as a whole. Rather, they are entirely personal. This is a long-running philisophical battle. I am of the mind that there are no entirely "personal" crimes - particularly crimes involving public officials.

Regardless, you may disagree with whether a particular type of conduct should be criminalized, but it is the society as a whole that makes the decision. Your opinion is your opinion and that fine. The law is the law and unless you can convince enough people to "impose" your opinion on the rest of us then law isn't going to change.

Again, you opinion is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

i would like to see as link that says this. Bill Clinton enjoyed one of the highest approval ratings of any modern day president . while it did drop during the Lewinski fiasco, it would have had to drop off the face of the earth to reach Bush's plateau. im not sure if there has ever been a more hated president then the one that resides in Washington right now

Re: Gov. Spitzer Linked to Prostitution Ring

When Reagan left office he left with the highest approval rating since FDR, a number which Bill Clinton would actually top 12 years later. Per Wikipedia "Clinton left office with a 65% approval rating, the highest end-of-presidency rating of any President who came into office after World War II."

She's hot but not 5K hot. I feel sorry for her cause she's the new Monica, a Monica that's too smart to do it for free of course.

I guarantee she'll make a killing off of this. A "tell all" book alone would be worth huge amounts of cash. Can you imagine a book about her life and career as a high-dollar hooker and her tryst with the Governor of New York?

That's a cash cow waiting to be milked.

On a different note, I'm not even sure what "$5k/hour hot" would look like. I've had my share of fun, but wouldn't there be an inevitable letdown when the hour(s) are up and you realize you're out $10k +? Maybe why this stuff is best left to the extremely wealthy. Relatively speaking I suppose $5k/hour for them is more like $50/hour for me, which sounds more reasonable.
