| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? Run chkdsk on the drive from the command prompt: 1. Start | Run 2. Type "cmd" (w/o quotes) 3. Type "c:" (w/o quotes) 4. Type "chkdsk /r" (w/o quotes) 5. When it prompts you to run when computer restarts, enter "y" (w/o quotes) 6. Restart your computer After it scans the disk on startup (which could take a while), then try to delete the file again.

And thanks ods, I'm gonna try that. Also, one more q, if I type all that is it gonna scan my C drive? Because the file is in my music folder, which is in my documents, and you can't get to my documents through the C drive.

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? Also, try accessing that directory when logged in as Administrator - you should find all of your files there.

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? So I just tried that, I went into Admin on safe mode and I actually did find my music folder and the invalid file in it. But it still wouldn't let me move or delete or do anything with it, so I just left it and logged out of safe mode again. none of the virus programs i've used have detected anything, so I feel mildly safer that it might not be a virus. I'm about to run what ODS said with the command prompt. |

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? So I tried the steps you said ODS but it didn't do anything. I opened up the command prompt, typed in c: and then chkdsk /r and then the thing came up and said it couldn't run it right now but i could reschedule it so it runs the next time i restart my computer, and i hit y. Then after that I restarted my computer but it didn't do anything, I logged on my account and it never ran or came up. If all else fails and I start seeing viral-like symtoms on my computer, then my trump card is the recovery disks that came with it. It'll delete everything off my hard drive and essentially give me a clean brand new computer where i'll have to restart everything and download everything i had on it before again, but it's a small price to pay to not have a virus infect my computer. I'd have to go a few days without the internet until my parents could get someone to come in and install this little program that puts my computer in the home network but at the end of the day it's not that bad. My brother got a virus on his, my mother got a virus on hers and it screwed both of them up so bad they couldn't do anything on it again, they couldn't even get the recovery disks to run, and I def. don't want that to happen to me because I'd have to go months without a computer lolol. |

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? That's odd. You can try the same thing in safe-mode with command prompt - that might get it going. If it doesn't, try chkdsk /f

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? The only other thing I can think of to ask is if System Restore is on. If so, you might be able to go back to the time before downloading the file without losing too much information.

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? Spybot is very effective, and so is AVG. I have the free version of AVG, and it updates by itself every day, and my computer has never had a virus (I put AVG on it the day after I bought it). I've never heard of your problem, but if you run thorough virus scans and nothing comes up, I wouldn't worry about it. If all else fails, get a Mac. My Dad and brother both own them, and man are they great.

I'll try what you just suggested ODS, but if that doesn't work and if the system restore thing BDB talked about doesn't work then I'll just live with it as long as it doesn't turn out to be a bad virus, in which case I'll just start the recovery disks.

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? Good luck - rebuilding a system sucks, but sometimes it's the only thing that will work.

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? Hmm, I'm running out of ideas. I've tried everything you guys have suggested but I still can't do anything with it. I was at that site BDB and I downloaded that file mover/deleter thing and installed it, but when I tried to delete it it said the file was invalid so idk what to do know lol. |

| Re: Are there any tech junkies on the boards that can help me? Yeah, that will only work on a file that is locked - not a corrupted file. I think you have a corrupted file.
