I think its very easy to look at this situation and state what should have happened. The fact of the matter is these people were on a bus, in their own world. Suddenly a very unexpected, violent act occurred. As a social worker who is quite familiar with both psychological and social theory, I can only assume that the fight or flight response kicked in and people did what they felt they had to to survive. No one on this board was on that bus and can say for sure what emotions and feelings were running through these peoples minds. I find situations like the older gentleman who was hit by a car in the street in Hartford to be much more troubling. I agree that as humans we need to look out for one another, but this is a very unique situation, and it must be looked at for what it is. No one could have helped that young man, he never had a chance. The people on that bus are going to need some serious help in getting through this, and judging them for their lack of action is just not something we should be doing.
